DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

The modern Batman is an obsessed, violent vigilante. He's going to kill the occasional combatant or too many readers will call "bullshit."

Not so much "bullshit", but many do view a 100 percent avoidance of killing when necessary unrealistic for the kind of pain-driven, uncompromising character Batman is.

However, Snyder's take did so many other things right when it comes to the Dark Knight, creating a character that has elements from many versions from the comics, that together with Nolan's Batman, he is the onscreen version I like the best. Warts and all.

:techman:

I don’t think this technically belongs in the James Gunn DC thread so posting it here. Joker: Folie a Deux is said to be like a jukebox musical, with up to 15 classic songs, but may add original tracks too: https://variety.com/2024/film/news/...d=48&cx_testVariant=cx_1&cx_artPos=0#cxrecs_s
I guess we will find out by December, when numbers start wrapping up, if it is DCFU or DCOU (Which allows for Elseworld movies).

If the acting is as flat as we have seen with Lady Gaga so far, or Joaquin in Napoleon, then it's DCFU.

If it is a hit like the first Joker, then we ought to talk about it in the DCOU

Tears of Clown
Cathy's Clown
I Started Joke
Don't Go Breaking My Heart
Send In The Clowns
Laughter In The Rain
and of course
The Joker

The soundtrack practically writes it's self. ;)
Did they already do any Pagliacci stuff in the first movie? Even if so, I'll be surprised if they don't mine it in some way.

I finally watched The Batman. Unbelievably boring and soooo long. I’ll probably check out The Penguin series at least.

At this point it’s safe to say that I dislike every live action Batman movie except ‘66 and The Dark Knight Rises because I haven’t seen them yet. But I will watch ‘66 eventually and The Joker.

I love The Animated Series and I’ve been enjoying the animated movies. And Gotham. Boy do I love me some Gotham! On the last few episodes and it hasn’t been great but overall it’s amazing!

Sorry for the long rant. I’m in a Batman-mood as of late.

If you think about it, it really amazing how different the Batman movies we've gotten are. They've been everything from the colorful comedy of the '66 movie, to the dark gritty serial killer thriller of The Batman.

if you've seen the show is it basically the same thing?
I mean, kind of? There's a lot of good character moments, and a good through line for Batman as a character. And lots of good humor moments, especially a phone call to the Navy, or thr commentary on drug use.

Yes, which is why producer William Dozier observed (after the movie performed less than expected) that people were not going to pay to see something they can watch for free. The film offered nothing new or "must see" that viewers were not going to see on the TV series (other than Nelson Riddle's great main title music and equally interesting visuals it accompanied),. That, and by the time the movie was released in July of 1966, "Batmania" was already fizzling out with the public, as evidenced by the drop in ratings (compared to its first few weeks when it caught viewers by surprise) for the TV series' first season. This moved Dozier to attempt to spark interest in season 2 by having more of his actor friends portray villains, villain team-ups, find reasons to use the vehicles created for the movie, add more Bat-gadgets and consciously altering the tone of series from action/adventure with only light tongue-in-cheek moments (Semple's influence when formatting the series as seen throughout an estimated 60% of season 1), to outright self-parody, and the continued rapid decline in ratings.

So, the movie is really worth a view for the title sequence, and the decision for Nelson Riddle to create a new theme, rather than just use Neal Hefti's TV theme. Aside from that, you would not be missing anything when it was found on the TV series.

I just finished the movie (for the first time) an hour ago and holy woah! It was super fun. :D

I LOVED it when Batman beat up the shark (poor Jaws!) and running around trying to dispose of the bomb (not the duckies!).

Every time Robin exclaims “Holy-something!” would probably make for a good drinking game.

And yet NOT ONCE has he ever said "Holy Cow". My wish would be that Robin would say that in a newer incarnation, but then we look up and see that Gotham is playing the Chicago Cubs.

Glad you enjoyed it. It's an underappreciated gem of a film that gets dismissed far too quickly because of preconceived notions.

Atleast we got this in Batman Forever. Still my favorite moment in the movie.

That bit didn't work for me, because there was no in-story reason for Robin to point out the holey rusted metal. It was too forced to be funny.
