DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

It would be far more likely (though still very much on the extremely unlikely side of things) for Disney to purchase the DC IP from WB.

The odds of WB going up for sale again are not insignificant, but not a sure thing either.

The odds of Disney being allowed to buy them are essentially zero, unless some major corruption takes place. The Fox Disney merger was already arguably so big it shouldn't have been allowed and Disney is now vastly bigger (in ip terms) because of it. Plus WB has generally been a bigger success overall than Fox.

The odds of Disney going up for sale are maybe not a flat zero but nevertheless very, very low.

Now, DC, if Gunn's universe doesn't take off, could definitely go up for sale separately from WB and that theoretically might change things. Although Disney still might not be allowed to buy DC when they already own Marvel. And there's never a guarantee of them actually being the highest bidder, either. They are still dealing with paying for the Fox merger even years later, so this kind of decision wouldn't be made lightly.

Back in the early 1980's Time-Warner, as it was back then, offered to sell DC to Marvel. What a different world it would be if they'd took them up on the offer.

It wasn't "Time-Warner" until 1990. It was just "Warner Communications" through the 80s.

Anyway, as I understand it, they never actually offered to "sell" DC to Marvel, but rather considered shutting DC down entirely and licensing out the characters.

Ironically, the roles were reversed in the 90's when Marvel went bankrupt and DC (via Time-Warner) was one of the (potential) buyers for Marvel.

I liked the movie a lot, but I'm not sure about this. Can Penguin be interesting through a whole series?

I didn't find the trailer interesting. It just seemed like a generic mob drama, with Farrell doing a very stereotypical mobster character. It doesn't help that I've never found Colin Farrell interesting in anything.

As for the movie, I liked it, but the Penguin sequence was the most pointless part of it. You could literally have cut out the entire freeway chase sequence with zero impact on the plot.

That and I'm not entirely enthralled by the idea of Colin Farrell in deep make-up instead of casting someone of similar physique of the final result. I really hate that recent trend of the past decade...even if I did enjoy Lithgow's Churchill.

That's a pretty great cast.
I liked Farrell as Penguin in the movie, so I'm looking forward to the show.

I still can't believe they were willing to give Penguin his own show over another Superman movie. What kind of buffoons are running DC's TV?

First off, DC's TV buffoons have no say on movies.

Second, DC/WB weren't unwilling to do another Superman movie, they just wanted to make sure to get the right Superman movie. We know there've been several different Superman movie projects in development in the past few years.
And we will get a new Superman movie in 2025, in case you haven't heard.

Please join the dots for me from commissioning a Penguin show to not making a Superman movie. (Leaving aside the fact that they are making a Superman movie.)

It's more that they were so quick to commission this for Penguin, compared to how long they're taking to do a Superman movie.

No mystery there. Penguin success or failure will have a marginal effect on DC overall. Superman…not so marginal. Thus the need to tread carefully.

After the way I believe Feige and Disney had artistically run Marvel into the ground, Disney acquiring DC is something I do not look forward to.
