DC launching digital service with Titans and Young Justice

Obviously they're not going to be making her a young teenager here.
I think they're doing what the animated movies Justice League vs Teen Titans and Teen Titans: The Judas Contract did. Nightwing and Starfire were adults while Raven and Beast Boy were teenagers
Based on these first two actors that seems pretty possible. Do we know yet exactly which characters are going to be in this?

Wow, there's already fanart out there:

The only thing I've seen him in is PotC, and he was pretty good there.
It looks like the people who were predicting an older Robin were right. I wonder if they'll go for any other teen or younger actors besides the girl playing Raven?

I'd expect him to be Nightwing rather than Robin, but the reports seem ambiguous on that.

It sounds like they're going for a similar dynamic to the past couple of animated Teen Titans DVD movies, where Nightwing and Starfire are the full-grown veterans who mentor the younger, second-generation Titans.

TVLine seems pretty adamant that he's actually playing ROBIN (rather than NIGHTWING), unless I misread something.

ScreenRant (citing The Hollywood Reporter) also specifies his character as being Robin, not Nightwing... but we'll see.

One would imagine that they're holding Nightwing in reserve for later on down the road for and his inevitable dark & broody phase. Which by extension allows for the possibility of bringing in a Tim Drake, Damien Wayne or Stephanie Brown later on down the line too. Sure, you can start him off as Nightwing and still bring a younger Robin in at any point, but I think it would have more meaning to the audience if they've had a chance to get used to Dick Greyson as Robin first.

I think this arrangement actually works quite well with their respective character arcs.
For example, Raven's whole "escaping from an abusive family" backstory has a little more resonance if she's younger and thus seemingly more vulnerable at the time. With an older character, that backstory would have a very different tone. Less fresh trauma and more like old wounds.
For Starfire, given how overtly sexualised the character is usually presented (the cartoon being the only really notable exception) I think casting too young would be *very* dicey.

I went looking through the articles about the show to try to find out whether he was Robin or Nightwing, and as far as I can tell, the actual quotes and press releases from the producers have only referred to him as Dick Grayson. Different articles have differed on whether they called him Robin, Nightwing, or just Dick Grayson, which tells me that the original source doesn't specify and the reporters are just making assumptions based on how much they know about the character.

Reporters often get things wrong, especially if it involves specialized knowledge. So it's important to read defensively -- pay attention to the difference between what's directly quoted from the source and what's written by the reporter, and distrust anything that comes exclusively from the latter, because it's probably just the reporter's interpretation and is filtered through their assumptions, biases, etc.

EDIT: And in fact, io9's article on the casting confirms that it hasn't been announced which identity Dick is using:

http://io9.gizmodo.com/dcs-live-action-teen-titans-show-has-cast-its-dick-gray-1798674213

Other than io9, every site that I've seen report on Brenton Thwaites' casting has run headlines that specifically identify him as playing Dick Grayson as Robin.

If the question of the identity Dick will be using in TITANS were as 'open' a question as io9 says it is, we would be seeing articles and headlines identifying Thwaites as playing DICK GRAYSON rather than ROBIN.

Point is they and we don't know. They are speculating and the people who know are being cagey.

^ I don't believe that the articles and headlines listing Thwaites as playing Robin are speculative, and one article from io9 is not enough evidence to convince me otherwise.

And we do. I've seen both. And, again, it's basic newsreading competence to differentiate between what's actually quoted in the press releases and what's merely written by reporters interpreting the press releases. The official releases only say Dick Grayson, while the articles and headlines have mentioned both Robin and Nightwing, as I already said. Reporters aren't infallible They make assumptions and jump to conclusions just like everything else.

Heck, in the past half-week, I've seen articles about Vixen: The Movie on both io9 and The A.V. Club (which are now sister sites on Kinja) claiming that the Amaya Jiwe version of Vixen would be joining Legends of Tomorrow this coming season instead of last season. Internet journalism is often incredibly shoddy and carelessly fact-checked, and it's clear that both those articles were written by people who didn't understand the topic they were writing about and didn't bother to confirm their claims before publishing them. If they could be wrong about a character's presence on a show that aired last year, they can sure as hell be wrong about a character's code name in a show that hasn't even been made yet.

Hawk and Dove have been cast.

http://deadline.com/2017/09/titans-minka-kelly-cast-dove-dc-live-action-series-1202163720/

Hawk will be Alan Ritchson, who was previously Smallville's Aquaman and one of the tributes in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, as well as Raphael in the recent Ninja Turtles movies. Dove will be Minka Kelly, whom I remember from the 2011 Charlie's Angels revival and Karl Urban's Almost Human, though apparently she's best known from Friday Night Lights. I'm pleased by Kelly's casting, since she's quite lovely.

Apparently Hawk and Dove will be recurring characters in the first season, but the actors have an option to become regulars if there's a second season, and are being considered for a potential spinoff further down the road.

So, as far as announced characters go, I think that just leaves Beast Boy to be cast.

^ And Barbara Gordon, if she's still part of the cast (which could easily be the case given thr retention, albeit in recurring roles, of Hawk and Dove).

The green actor pool isn't very deep. ;)

By the way, Minka Kelly's casting as Dove means that all five regular cast members of the 2011 Charlie's Angels have now gone on to play roles in superhero universes, three for DC and two for Marvel. Annie Ilonzeh had a recurring role in Arrow's first two seasons as Joanna de la Vega, Laurel Lance's legal-aid partner and best friend (and the only character on the list who isn't from the comics). Rachael Taylor is Trish (Patsy) Walker in Jessica Jones and The Defenders. Ramon Rodriguez (Bosley) was badly miscast as Bakuto in Iron Fist and The Defenders. And the voice of Charlie was Victor Garber, who plays Martin Stein on The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, and who had previously voiced Sinestro in the 2009 animated movie Green Lantern: First Flight.
