DC Comics: Rebirth

I've got mixed feelings about Bendis's run. I like his handling of Action Comics, but I've been less impressed by his Superman. (Some of that may just be my own preferences at work, however, since I usually tend to like Superman better in the classic context of Metropolis/Daily Planet/Lois/Jimmy/Perry than in more fantastic or fanciful settings.) I think he has a fine sense of Superman's character and voice. Sometimes his dialogue works for me, other times it's a bit opaque. I dislike the aging-up of Jon, Rogol Zaar was a damp squib, and I don't see where revealing Clark's identity publicly is going to be a beneficial development, so most of his "big ideas" aren't really working for me. But I also think his influence is responsible, directly or indirectly, for the excellent new Lois Lane and Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen maxiseries, as well as the long-awaited return of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
 
I like aspects of his story telling. I have been less impressed by his take on Jimmy Olson who was one of the characters actually improved in the New 52. How dumb is he not to have figured out that Superman and Clark are the same person after the scenes in the fortress with Amanda Waller for example?
 
I have to say, fuck "The Batman Who Laughs". Seriously, there is some shitty storyline with him in the Batman/Superman book that I don't read where he infects a lot of heroes into acting like him (aka acting like The Joker), and its literally ruined Supergirl's book by making her one of the "infected". Not only that, but every single Supergirl preview, continuing for MONTHS from now, has this stupid spinoff continuing. Its a 4-6 month storyline with new writers that takes over this book for no reason.

I was really liking this Supergirl run, it was one of the DC books I looked the most forward to each month. Now its been destroyed because of a shitty storyline by a Batman/Superman book that has absolutely nothing to do with Supergirl or anything she's been doing. It just goes to show, for the millionth time, that there is no book good enough that DC won't destroy it on literally a whim.

I swear, if they even think about touching Hawkman with this bullshit I will go absolutely out of my mind.
 
Yeah, that's the one problem with having all of these series take place in one shared universe. I know I've even heard stories about writers getting annoyed that their book was being taken over by a crossover storyline they had nothing to do with.

Lol, I can't tell if you're joking or not, but who do you think Sky Tyrant is from the latest issue? (It even shows Batman Who Laughs under the acetate covering laughing over him)
 
"Fuck 'The Batman Who Laughs,'" indeed. Rarely am I in accord with kirk55555, but this is such an occasion.

In fact, fuck all this "Dark Multiverse" crap. I read the recent take on the death of Superman, with Lois becoming a superpowered vengeance-driven mass murderer in its aftermath. What an utterly puerile, pointless, and offensive piece of shit that was.

A number of years back when all the DC books jumped ahead one year following the 52 mini-series, John Byrne's Blood of the Demon was literally in the middle of an action packed cliffhanger and he wasn't allowed a issue or two stay to make a clean jump.
 
:rolleyes: That's ridiculous. Did he at least get to deal with the resolution as a flashback or in dialogue?
 
So I finally read Doomsday Clock. At first I was reading it as each issue was released, but it was so slow in coming out I decided to just save the rest of the issues and read the whole thing in as close to one go as I could. I started over with the first issue last week and read the final issue last night. Overall I enjoyed it, but I don't think all the changes introduced will stick, which is too bad. I guess we'll have to wait and see how events in Justice League play out. I have a feeling that two of the changes from the final issue will not be kept.

Superman`s parents being alive, and Wonder Woman being around n the days of the JSA
 
I really liked Doomsday Clock and how it treated Superman as necessary for a positive direction that all universes need. It really worked for me.
 
Superman's human parents or Kryptonian ones? I very much enjoyed the 90s comics where his human parents were still alive. It was a nice family dynamic for Clark to have and explained his upbringing well.

Wonder woman being immortal and around during the JSA makes a ton of sense and restores a lot of the early comics continuity from pre-crisis presumably. Superman and Wonder woman should always have the capability of being a generation or two removed from the rest of the DCU considering their god-like status lifespan.

I have an unrelated question--

Is there an "origin of John Stewart" story out there. I know how Hal got his ring with Abin Sur, but I can't find much out there on the story of John Stewart getting his. All I can find is that the Guardians chose him.

But is there an actual story?

Doomsday clock was ok for something that was about going through Alan Moore's rubbish bin - even the metaverse idea he did before (on his supreme run).
 
One of the DC offerings on Free Comic Book Day will be "Generation Zero" #1, which looks like it will kick off the event that will set up this new G5 timeline.

What little I've heard and/or paid attention to about this has me less than thrilled, and the prominent placement of the fucking Batman Who Laughs :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: on that cover makes me even less so.
