DC Comics: Rebirth

Read some yummy Young Justice yesterday.

One of the Kids hacked either a Green Lantern power battery, or the Central power Battery. Which on one hand has me amazed at the versatility of a Waynetech tablet, but on the other hand... I doubt that this 11 year old human is the first "thing" in the known universe to accomplish this feat in the last 3 million years.

There's probably entire planets leaching off the Oan Will Power grid to keep light and heat on during winter... Which is a cautionary tale since will power is finite and when the universe runs out, the universe dies.
 
Well that didn't last very long.
It sounds like the Vertigo series will be continuing, they'll just be part of DC Black Label rather than Vertigo.
 
Yeah, though I have noticed a few of titles initially announced for Vertigo turning up at other publishers, as well. "Second Coming", for instance, was announced for Vertigo, then was cancelled shortly after the announcement, then went to Ahoy Comics. "Safe Sex" is the latest one, going from Vertigo to Image Comics (retitled as "SFSX"). I get the feeling that the DC management isn't as open to publishing controversial material as they used to be back in the 90s.

This time, they'll have Diamond editions, so they will be available at comic shops. Definitely interested in a few of those.
 
Am I the only one wondering what the situation is with Geoff Johns?

He stepped down from his movie and business responsibilities to return to writing comics (while also producing and writing the Stargirl show), but Doomsday Clock keeps getting delayed, SHAZAM! #7 (and subsequent issues) has been pushed back repeatedly, Three Jokers has been in development for three years now and still no release date, and just this week, the Stargirl omnibus that was to coincide with the TV show has been cancelled.

That one is especially puzzling. While the others could be explained with Johns being busy working on the Stargirl TV show, the omnibus would have been a reprint of already existing material.

It turned out that DC solicited the Stargirl omnibus too early, since the television series' debut has been pushed back. That's the reason for the cancellation. DC will resolicit in a couple of months so it will be in stores alongside the series premiere.

I like what Bendis has been doing at DC, particularly Naomi. It's always at the top of my reading pile. Event Leviathan has been good so far too, especially with the art by Alex Maleev.

I read Legion of Super-Heroes back in the 80s and enjoyed. Might have to give the Bendis version a shot. Anyone know when it comes out?
 
Just saw this today regarding disappointing digital sales for DC. As a purchaser of DC's digital comics I can make two observations about possible causes:

1. There is no longer a discount for DC's digital comics. They used to be a dollar cheaper, and then you had to wait three months or something for the discount. Now it is relegated to comics that are older than that.

2. There are no longer digital copy codes in the comics, unless this has been restarted recently. About a year ago, I wanted to start purchasing physical copies but didn't when I found out there wasn't a digital copy that went with it. For me, a physical copy is something I want to keep in good condition.
 
I have (far too) many boxes of comics in my basement (bought on and off between 1972ish and 2010). When I became aware of digital comics, I made the switch immediately (I read them—not much of a collector in the sense of preservation) and have been happy with the lack of accumulation ever since.

I was annoyed when DC stopped the regular discount it used to have but took it stride (am very aware that I have the luxury to do so that others might not). I’m much more a DC guy, though I have a fair bit of Marvel (mostly Spider-Man), both in print and digitally.

Lately, though, I’m finding it increasingly difficult to stay engaged with some titles (no doubt because I’m now in my 50s and set in my ways ;) ). Green Lantern has become a bit weirder than I typically enjoy (and I think I’m open to weird). Justice League is edging in that direction. Eh. Perhaps it’s time for one of my periodic breaks from comics.

While individual sales might be down, I wonder how this correlates with the launch (and later expansion) of the DCU App? I'm content to be a year behind on most of the books. $80 a year for everything vs $80 for 20 single issues? Pfft.

In this case, I think you have a point as another fault with DC is that they don't allow for PDF downloads as most other comic companies do.
