DC Comics is doing new versions of The Flintstones, Johnny Quest, Scooby Doo, Wacky Races

That doesn't seem odd to me. I get why you're saying it. I'm only saying what I expect to happen next issue.
I realise that - thanks for seeing where I'm coming from!. I imagine it will include an origin story, (prefer that to remain a mystery), like they did for Franky Jr. and co. in 4, reveal 'info about Spare part Girl, (for those who are interested), and later issues will have them helping to tackle Omikron, etc., (probably think that's a pussycat compared to Deva! How DARE she refer to their music in quotation marks)!!

I'm sorry, I think you're destined for disappointment no matter what. When an IP is purchased for new use, the new owners always want to put their own "mark" on it. It may be subtle or maybe be a bizarre interpretation, but it's never really quite the same. You have this perfect memory of that group and I think all you can do is cherish it. Even someone that's as into them as yourself wouldn't be able to recapture that exact "magic" that you experienced. They may come close, but it's never the same. Sorry.

Well, she's obviously not a pop music fan...

H'mm.........I've seen fan art and read fan fiction about them, (and other stories, etc)., some I haven't liked, some I've really enjoyed and thought that the writer/artist's own stamp hasn't distracted at all or gone too far from the original. DC seem to keep rebooting their own stuff in ways that I often don't like at all for titles I previously really enjoyed, so it's not surprising they are making changes to the original characters/series, (some more than others), for this set of titles - they seem to try and fix what was never broken a lot.

I know I've been disappointed a lot more than happy with recent revivals of many things I enjoyed in the past. Maybe I'm just too pessimistic, but my experience has guided that.

I should also add that there is a difference between changes someone isn't too keen on but will tolerate, and those which are just not deemed acceptable. Where the line is drawn, of course, depends on the individual!

Okay, but it's not like the sale happened last week. Time Warner has owned Hanna-Barbera and all its characters for decades, and DC - a sister company - has published faithful comics based on the characters in the past, so it's not like it's impossible for them to do.

Agreed, these new series are an attempt to bring something new to the narratives, but just because it's inevitable doesn't mean we have to like it.

I really don't think it's about trying to fix something, so much as just wanting to do their own version of something. I've seen plenty of situations where someone who is obviously a huge fan of something still makes changes when they do there own version of it. It's not "fixing", it's just different writers approaching it from a different perspective.

It can go too far - I think DC really went downhill with "Crisis on Infinite Earths", which seemed to lead to countless reboots and convoluted storylines which went nowhere fast!

It wouldn't have been so bad if they'd only done it the once. Doing it every couple of years is like beating the dead horse with a piledriver.

It wouldn't be bad if they were soft reboots like Marvel does, but I can see where the constant clean slate reboots would be annoying to long time readers.
I don't think Marvel has ever done a full, clean slate reboot, have they?

Marvel takes the opposite tack. They create new universes instead of merging the ones they have. When they wanted a line for kids they created Star Comics. When they wanted an adult line they created Epic. When they wanted realism they created the imaginatively named "New Universe." Their first real reboot was the Ultimates line. Their big events are the Secret Wars and the Civil Wars, but these don't reboot anything.

I don't like this Scooby Doo version or the Flintstones version. They ought to leave well enough alone. Wacky Races, on the other hand, might be kind of cool. Like someone said in an earlier post it reminded them of Mad Max.

If people "left well enough alone," we never would've had a Scooby-Doo (which was originally conceived as a knockoff of The Archies and whose human characters were based on the cast of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis) or a Flintstones (which is a direct parody of The Honeymooners) in the first place. Taking old ideas and doing new riffs on them is a key part of creativity. Not every attempt will work, to be sure, but creativity has never been about leaving well enough alone.

We've now gotten word of the next new Hanna-Barbera Beyond title, Snagglepuss. The series will be written by Prez and The Flintstones writer Mark Russel, and will reimagine the character as a gay southern Gothic playwright working on Broadway in the 1950s. According to CBR fandom has often interpreted the character as gay, so it sounds this isn't as much of a stretch as it seems like at first.
The character will make his first appearance in the backup story in the Suicide Squad/Banana Splits annual, which will see him brought before the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

They've started releasing the first Trades of the Hanna-Barbera series.
Release Dates:
Scooby Apocalypse: February 7th
Future Quest: February 21 (today)
Wacky Raceland: March 14
The Flintstones: March 28

I picked up the digital version of first The Flintstones trade, and read through the first issue.
I posted some thoughts in another thread:
I've been hearing nothing about how great this in since it started, and I can already see why after just the first issue. I got really interested when I heard how this really gets into a lot of really relevant social issues, and they already started some of that. I think this could actually be one of the few times where a reboot actually makes better use of a premise than the original did.
A few more specific thoughts I didn't cover there:
I'm loving some of the stuff in that is kind of there, but not big parts of the story, like the names of the stores, and the claw game at the Outback Snakehouse.
Giving Fred and Barney, and Bedrock itself such a dark backstory was a really interesting choice. I'm pretty curious to learn more about what exactly happened with the war.
I like that they're able to work in some nice moments into the book, like Wilma's story behind her artwork.
I like them having Wilma be an artist, that way she's staying at home, but can still be more than just a housewife.

I have just picked it up too. The book is amazing. They even managed to put Gazoo in there. Very good commentary of modern life mixed in with comedy. Reminds me a lot of of his Prez book.

I finished up the collection earlier this week. I posted my thoughts in another thread, if anyone wants I can copy and pate them here too.
