DC Cinematic Universe ( The James Gunn era)

My daughter is taking me to an IMAX (full 15/70 presentation—not “LIEMAX” as one of my buddies calls the more numerous, smaller [still pretty decent] IMAX venues) as my Father’s Day gift. Feels a bit weird (I used to take her to various movies for her birthday). But definitely looking forward to it.

He is an alien. ;)

If we can suspend disbelief about an alien coincidentally looking exactly like a human (let alone having superstrength, invulnerability, and the power of flight), surely it's no harder to suspend disbelief about a symbol in his writing system coincidentally looking exactly like an S.

My daughter is doing the same as my Father’s Day gift!

My cinema buddy and I don't have a lot time to see everything we want, and money is a factor as well. So we decided to sit this one out for streaming and do FF and the new Jurassic World movie instead.
So here's me avoiding all possible spoilers I can.

The trailer looks decent but I've been hurt too many times to invest in the entire universe again. I invested in the Snyderverse but WB sabotaged themselves and destroyed it and then wondered why it wasn't being successful, my beloved Arrowverse was unceremoniously dismantled for several management level reasons and so I don't have the heart to give the Gunnverse my full devotion as it will undoubtedly be retooled and rebooted upon a flop.

There's a part of me that didn't want to like the trailer and for the film to fail just because WB deserve it for their chicanery and skullduggery but I will give Superman an open-minded watch as an isolated project and that's probably how I'll approach this era of DC content.

I'm not investing in a universe. Next Tuesday, I'm going to see a new Superman movie. That's exciting!

I don't see how watching a single movie is an "investment." Nobody's required to watch every installment in a shared universe; that's just an option. If an individual movie is good, it's fine to enjoy it for itself and not worry about what happens in the sequels.

I mean, I find the DCEU enormously inconsistent, and I didn't like its first two entries, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the individual films within the series that I did like, such as Wonder Woman and Aquaman and Blue Beetle. The fact that BvS and Wonder Woman 1984 are bad doesn't make Wonder Woman any less good, because they're separate works.
