DC Animated Direct-to-DVDs

I would love to see Knightfall done as an animated series two-parter. Movie one, Azreal, the Arkham Breakout, Bane vs Batman. Movie Two, Azreal as Batman, Bane vs Az-Bats, and Batman vs Az-Bats. It could be Epic if they do it right. Did anyone ever hear the audio drama they did of Knightfall a few years ago? They even had Micheal Gough as Alfred, and Mark Hamill as the Joker. They should definately get Hamill for the Joker.

^After Ledger's Joker, Hamil's will always be ranked amongst the best.

I'm also interested in seeing Public Enemies adapted as well as Green Lantern, hopefully the Flash will get his turn soon enough. Green Arrow wouldn't go amiss either. It could even be a two-fer featuring Black Canary.

The one I wish they'd do (which they never will of course) is Booster Gold.

Note:
Just finished Wonder Woman and I was suitably impressed.
Gail Simone was sorely missed on those last few issues of Birds of Prey.

Personally I'm really hoping they're able to go back and do a JL/JLU movie or two.

Well Just League: Worlds Collide continues to be tossed around as a possibility, and Bruce Timm has said he'd like to return to his own animation style, so getting a JL/JLU movie is a possibility. Of course, at 6 months/movie and two confirmed projects in the pipeline it's going to be a while before we see a JL movie.

If I had to speculate on future dates/titles I'd probably say:

7/09: Green Lantern
2/10: Public Enemies
7/10: Aquaman or Flash
12/10: Green Lantern (Tied into the theatrical release), possibly Sinestro Corps War
6/11: Batman (Tied into theatrical release)
2/12: Justice League: Worlds Collide

The exact dates could vary a little based on marketing needs and other releases, and obvisoulsy this is all speculation, but I think this matches the general approach we've seen so far.

The only title really missing from this list is a solo Superman title. Personally, I'd love to see one, but unfortunately I haven't even seen any rumors one is under discussion.
I hope DC/Warner decides add a release every year, it's feeling like a really long time between movies.

I'd rather see the length increased to 90-100 minutes per DVD. But I guess that adds cost that each movie would have to make up. I wonder if these movies have done well enough to justify a slightly larger budget at this point?

Yeah, it'd be great if they bumped it up to three releases a year. They did initially say it would be two to three a year. Anyway, it'll be a short wait for the next one: Green Lantern: First Flight is being released in July. I'm hoping that Superman/Batman: Public Enemies is released this year, too, perhaps around November, with a pattern then established of three releases per year: one in February/March, one in June/July, and one in November/December.

Around 75 minutes is the standard length for animated DTVs throughout the industry, whether it's DC, Marvel, Disney, Hellboy Animated, whatever. I could only see them going up to 85-90 minutes for something they knew would be a huge seller, like The Dark Knight Returns or The Long Halloween.

I wonder how much more stunt casting the voice leads cost. Sure it helps publicity, but I would imagine veteran voice actors would be cheaper than Kerri Russel, Nathan Fillian, Neil Patrick Harris, Lucy Lawless, etc...

^^Well, Fillion and Harris have done voices for WB productions in the past; Fillion was Vigilante in JLU and Harris was Replay on Static Shock. Not to mention that Harris played Spider-Man in the MTV 3D-animated series a few years back. And they're just two of the many name actors who have done guest spots on WB and other animated shows. So I wouldn't call it stunt casting. There's much less of a divide between live-action performers and animation performers than there used to be.

Christopher Meloni and Victor Garber seem like good choices for Hal Jordan and Sinestro.
Sinestro's always sounded British in my head, personally (partly because he was based on David Niven, visually).

Public Enemies is definitely a great premise for a story, though hopefully they'll be liberal in the adaptation, because, as a typical 21st century Loeb story, the actual execution was abysmal.

I think I normally hear a nasal British voice for Sinestro myself, actually. And agreed regarding Public Enemies' adaptation.
Actually, I almost hear the voice of ReBoot's Cecil as Sinestro...just as pompous and full of himself, and ultimately unable to live up to his own braggadocio.

I just rented the Wonder Woman DVD and there's a featurette about the Green Lantern movie on it. We get to hear some of Victor Garber's dialogue as Sinestro, accompanied by storyboards, and I think he's an excellent choice.

Before watching that feature, I was only familiar with Christopher Meloni through his in-character appearances on SVU, so...wow, he's different.

Yeah... he was also on 'Oz.' (I do my best not to think of it.)

Clearly he's rather different in real-life.

Wasn't WW originally thought of as a 2008 release that got moved back a bit? (possibly I'm mistaken)

So confirmation on Public Enemies. As I said earlier, it's a good story idea, though I have faith that the writers will drastically reduce the stupid quotient found in Loeb's actual execution of it.
