Dax's Burial

Considerin' her body was in a torpedo tube when Sisko was talkin' to "her," I'd say that she was shot out into space from the station...maybe towards the wormhole she helped discover?

I thought it was said that her body would be returned to Trill in the episode?

I know that, in the novels, her body was sent back to Trill for burial (but they're not canon).

I don't know how much can be read into the her being in a torpedo casing. It possibly might be the standard Starfleet coffin for its deceased personnel.

She had family possibly back on Trill so it wouldn't be surprising if she wanted to be taken back so they could hold a service for her and do whatever Trill do with their dead. Maybe they fire them into the sun or make a refreshing pop drink.

In TrekLit, she's buried back on Trill, which is good enough for me. :techman: Specifically Bashir visits her grave in Worlds of DS9: Trill:Unjoined.

Dax was definately goin' back to Trill, but Julian had already removed the symbiont from Jadzia.

I think a more interesting question would be:

Had they shot her body into the wormhole would the wormhole aliens have brought her back to life?? ;)

Given that we'll never see DS9 or TNG again, they are canon enough for me. Excellently written too.

Did they ever say what Jadzia's original name was? I mean they made a big deal out of Ezri's real last name, of Tigan (Tigen?) and the fact that she had a family that was of some well to do-ishness, but what of Jadzia's family. I think I recall an episode where Jadzia mentioned a sister or some other sibling once, but we've never seen any parents or other parts of her Trill family. Did she like disown everyone, because even at her wedding and at her funeral, there was no one from her original family there. It was all her "adopted" family on DS9. She wasn't THAT old where her parents wouldn't still be alive or anyone else.

Well, it was wartime - the family might not have been able to travel, not to what at the time still counted as front lines.

And (novels notwithstanding) the jury is still out on whether Trills were UFP members at all; if not, there might have been additional travel obstacles for foreigners.

Anyway, "Equilibrium" suggests that Jadzia detested returning to Trill, after having had unpleasant experiences in the symbiont selection process there. Her family could have been a bunch of homebodies, leading indirectly to a rift between them and their daughter even if there was no actual animosity.

But we can always speculate that joined Trills are likely to become estranged from their families, due to the intensity of the experience. Ezri might actually have had it easy...

She was in a torpedo tube so I am assuming she was shot out into space. I can't remember if they every explain it later or not. But... I started Season 7 on DVD now so I will watch out for it.

That makes the most sense to me, personally. It's a Starfleet tradition, so they keep doing that, even if the body will be transferred back to the deceased's family.

Also, Jadzia's family name was never given on the show, but the books gave her the name 'Idaris.'
