As I mentioned previously, I don't post much in this forum because I haven't EVER seen Seasons 4-7 of DS9 and don't want to accidentally stumble upon any spoilers.

But I'm about 8 episodes into Season 3 (and still enjoying the series IMMENSELY), but I'm surprised by something.

I always thought Terry Farrell was a beautiful woman, but I find myself getting more and more attracted to Kira as we go along. I also think Kira is the more interesting character.

Anybody else feel that way?

I prefer Dax in theory but Kira in practice. (Did that sound rude?)

The concept of the Trill is really cool and when that's expounded upon or explored, Dax shines (as in "Rejoined" most clearly) but I have very little interest in where they took the character (she seemed to lose a lot of what made her unique). Perhaps her actress wasn't powerful enough.

Kira, on the other hand, could have been boring as all hell (the whole "Terrorist versus Freedom Fighter" thing has been done to death), but the actress made it work and she broke out as one of my favourite characters.

All this said, Ezri has a special place in my heart (I know a lot of people didn't really like her).

Kira is the best character of Star Trek, ever.

Though I don't play for that team, I would say she is the more attractive of the two as well, though Dax is the best "sexy/smart" character cast in Trek (Seven and T'Pol have nothing on her).

It was always Kira for me, both in looks and character. I don't deny Terry Farrel is an attractive woman (she is a former model, after all) but Nana Visitor's gorgeous eyes and infectious smile won me over from the start (not to mention a pretty backside as well, especially prior to her pregnancy). Add to that that Kira received a lot more character development over the course of the show than Dax did and it's a "no contest" for me.

Also having watched both these actresses in other shows/movies I think Nana comes off on top in the acting department easily (I really enjoyed Nana on MacGuyver, Doogie Houser M.D. and Wildfire while I've found Terry decent on Becker and truly horrible in Hellraiser 3).

But oddly enough some of my favorite Kira scenes on DS9 were those with Dax (like the ones in The Siege, Blood Oathr, Way Of The Warrior or the one where the two of them gossip about Odo much to Worf's dismay). I think Terry and Nana had chemistry in their scenes and Terry actually pulls off snarky/amuzed pretty well. It's only when the script requires serious or angry that she fails to be convincing.

Kira is one of my favorite characters in the entire franchise, and Nana Visitor is a sweetheart. Kira all the way.

Although, I love Daz too...

You don't play for this team?

Kira is for my money, the best written female character in the history of the franchise, and Nana Visitor nailed the character early on acting wise.

I will say Dax was a very interesting concept which was occasionally executed close its potential and Farrell did eventually start having a presence in her performances come late season 2, early season 3.

Kira lived up to her character's premise and grew beyond it; on some good episodes Dax managed the former, but never quite reached the latter.

I'm pretty sure the old school of though requires a vat of Jello or Mud for this to be a valid verses between two attractive females.

I voted for Kira. I didn´t like her much in season 1 but now she´s one of my favorites. I came to like her by reading the DS9 novels.

@ EnriqueH: as there are several Daxes I will refrain from commenting on Dax until you have watched the whole show.

Wow...Dax vs. Kira....that's not even fair on poor Jadzia . One is an interesting, engaging and superbly acted character, the other is a pretty face with a nice gimmick and nothing else.

Of course I choose Kira, substance over style as far as I'm concerned.

Kira by a country mile. Jadzia has her moments, but everyone does. Kira, though, I really felt invested in her character and she has a *lot* of growth from the beginning of the show to the end. Even in season 1 she has some great bits like Duet, and her part in Progress. Kira is *far* more three-dimensional overall.

Glad you're enjoying the show thus far.

Just simulating that...

Kira wins the boxing and talent competitions, Dax recovers and wins the drinking and the swimsuit competitions.

Tie.

Dax (as if my username doesn't make my choice obvious! :P)

I do love Kira, but Jadzia is my home girl. I actually find Kira more attractive, but I love Jadzia's personality. She is intelligent, open-minded, kind, witty, and just... really bad ass. I love that she can hang with the guys and go toe-to-toe with them. I feel like I can relate to her more too. Some of that is likely because she's the science officer, and I'm a chemistry student. Another reason could be that I'm a total bookworm, spend a lot of time studying, but I also like to drink and play card games in my downtime. She has all these guys going googly eyed over her, but I don't feel like it ever went to her head - she remained pretty down to Earth.

I voted Kira but if you had broken the Dax's into Ezri and Jadzia I would have voted Ezri.

I wasn't that keen on Kira the first time I watched DS9 but each subsequent rewatch I liked her better.

I was utterly meh about Jadzia except for a few moments and eps.

Am I in the minority in completely disliking Ezri?! Perhaps it's just because I'm so attached to Jadzia but I really wish they would've had Ezri as her own separate character.

Ezri was exactly the sort of character I disliked, the sort of character I had loathed in other shows.

I ADORED HER.

I don't know why  It was like magic!
