David Warner Passes

I'm sorry to inform you that David Warner, memorable Star Trek guest actor and star of 70s/80s sci-fi films, The Omen and Tron, has died from cancer complications.

He was 80 (not the best, but not the worst by today's standards like with James Caan and Tony Sirico).

Between his acting on screen and his voice work he was a giant of which the likes will not be seen again. Even as minor characters he was the largest presence.

I read recently that he recorded something for Doctor Who's 60th anniversary with Christopher Eccleston. I really must listen to his Doctor Unbound audios sometime.

This is a great and terrible loss. I've been a big fan of his for many years. Not just the films already mentioned (including one of the few redeeming qualities of The Final Frontier), but also Time After Time, The Time Bandits, Mary Poppins Returns, and, of course, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. Not just films, but he was also prolific TV actor, too, with great appearances on Batman: The Animated Series, Babylon 5, Gargoyles, and Doctor Who, among many, many others.

He was truly one of the absolute finest actors to grace our screens and stages with an unforgettable voice that was perfect for audio, too. Speaking of...

Yes, you really must! Sympathy for the Devil is one of my absolute favorite Big Finish audio plays and I love that he eventually got his own ongoing series as The Unbound Third Doctor alongside Benny Summerfield. He did a number of other Big Finish audios, both Doctor Who and other properties.

Rest in peace, David Warner. Thank you for the decades of memorable characters, both good and evil.

An incredible actor, and played three of my favorite Star Trek roles, two of them from my favorite Trek movies.
Also, he played Professor Perry, head scientist of TGRI in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze.

He also played as Bob Cratchit in my (second) favorite A Christmas Carol film starring George C. Scott.

Thinking about it, the first two movies I saw him in were related to time travel - "Time After Time" where he played Jack the Ripper against Malcolm McDowell's H.G. Wells and "Time Bandits" where he played "Evil".

His conversation with H.G. Wells in the hotel room about how well he fits in the 20th Century for some reason has always staid with me.

My personal favorite David Warner appearance would have to be Time Bandits, which is also one of my favorite fantasy genre films.
