David Tennant leaves DW after the specials

Maybe he'll return as his "human doctor" character one day. 
Oh, no way. They'll want to establish a new Doctor, out of Tennant's shadow, for much more than a year first.
The original series clocked up 26 years in which time they went through 7 doctors which averages out at 3.7 years per Doctor which meants Tennant is slightly above the average for time in the role.
And given the way Tom Baker was towards the end I'm not sure that having anyone in the role long enough to break it would be a good thing.
i too hope for an older Doctor Ten(nant) to be the one regenerating, so he can guest star in the next few years.
Here's a thought -- how about having a younger FIRST Doctor show be featured for a up to a season?
there's a lot we don't know , right, so it might be interetsing a write that, with the Doctor somehow not knowing his future..?
when he says go kill Patrick Stewart, does that mean what I hope it means? or am I reading way to much into that?
as for a Multi Doctor story, I think Tennant will do one at some point, however Steve Mollmann is right, they wont bring him back to early, the fans wont like a new Doctor if Tennat appears to soon.
Meanwhile I like the idea of ageing the Tennant a bit before he regenerates, makes it easy for him to return despite having aged, and with the specials being what they are, its possible they could get away with the last one being an older Doctor. Maybe have an aged TenthDoctor face theMaster in the final specail, but not in a wheel chair in a bird cage this time.

I agree, I think he'll eventually do a multi-Doctor story (well it's way more likely he'll do one then Eccleston) but hopefully he wont do it too soon.

I was such a big fan of both Chris Eccleson's and David Tennant's Doctor. Losing them both has been a real crush.
At this point I hope they radically recast the Doctor. Make him a HER. Play with his/her ethnicity. Something exciting...

Yes, it would be a real breakthrough to the show to have a non-white Doctor.
Sadly though, Doctor Who is made by the BBC. 
I think it's a good thing he's leaving on a high. I loved him in the role and I'll miss him but regeneration is part and parcel of the series' mythology. I'm excited to see who'll be next.
The idea is a good one, but I think it would take away from that sense of mystery about the doctor and the timelords.
Man, this sucks. Tennant is about as ideal a Doctor as I can imagine there being, and it's going to be hard seeing him go.
Hopefully they take the character in a new direction though. Someone with the same sense of wonder, but a little less wacky and off the wall. Maybe like another Paul McGann.
(But please, no Patrick Stewart. As much as I love the guy, everytime he tries to act "fun and wacky" it's just painful to watch, and you know that's how he'd try to play it)

I can't say this came as a shock or surprise. It is kind of sad though.
I'm always a bit apprehensive when a regeneration comes along. Because, as The Doctor once said, "That's the problem with regeneration, you never quite know what you're going to get".
Still, there's only been one Doctor that I never liked and who never grew on me over time. That's a pretty good track record.

I thought the whole reason of Tennant doing the Specials this years was so the BBC could hold onto him and fit his schedule without having to change to a new Doctor. It's a real shame that we won't see him part of Moffat's era. I would have loved at least one more full Season. But I guess it does give Moffat a clean slate. However you can never really bring back characters like Donna with a new Actor as the Doctor, the Chemistry wouldn't be the same so I feel this is more than just the departure of Tennant's Doctor but of all those wonderful characters he met on the Journey.
