Sex scandal or not, dislike him.
The poll is a little confusing so I'll say "I like him".
My take on Letterman is that he's kind've a dick. He's often an ass in interviews, and has been involved in several of these types of embarrassing sexual incidents.
That said, I respect the guy for refusing to kneel to this creep. Letterman's got guts, and despite any shortcomings is a very intelligent guy and can be amusing on occassion.
Hell, I like him enough.

I never liked his show. Several years back, David Duchovny was to be the final guest of one of his shows, and he got bumped like three times before he finally got on. Yet Dave and Paul always have 10 minutes every show to repeat the same joke back and forth to each other.
Letterman is the true successor to Carson of Late Night and is a consummate host. He knows exactly what he's doing, works his audience in exactly the right way, is quick witted, and can slap down some of his more embarrassing guests down to size (to Phoenix: "I'm sorry you couldn't be with us tonight.") For those reasons I like watching him.
As for his personal life? Looks like it stinks, but I don't know enough about the details - and, frankly, it's none of our business, his public announcement was nothing but clever damage limitation - to be able to pass judgment on it.

I've never hated Dave; never really liked him either. But this whole sex thing...well, let's be honest here. Wouldn't we need to hate pretty much every celebrity on the planet if we hated Dave for this? If I understand things correctly, Dave used his power to get women to sleep with him and cheated on his girlfriend; it's like Bill Clinton Part 2.

I went the same route as you. I never liked him or disliked him. I only really watched his show when he had on someone I really liked and wanted to see the interview.
The sex scandal thing doesn't really bother me, I figure that that sort of thing is somewhat common with major players in the entertainment industry.
I love Dave. He rocks. He's got a dryer sense of humor, he's way more talented than that hack Leno.
Is he a private person, despite his celebrity? Yes. He's managed to keep his life his life, and avoid being a 'celebrity' and because of that, he's considered 'nasty' or 'uppity' or a 'dick' or some such. So he rarely does interviews? So you don't see him on ET or Access Hollywood or TMZ (until lately) -- why does that make him a dick? Why does being able to keep his life private make him a 'bad' celebrity? As for his own interview style... heaven forbid he doesn't fawn over every star that crosses his desk.
Dave is the intelligent man's comedian. He does lame gags, of course, but he doesn't depend on them. I really feel for him going through this. The so-called 'scandal' is nothing of the sorts. He had consensual relationships with of age woman, who, while they worked for him, no one has ever even hinted at feeling harassed in 30+ years. The true scandal is a sleazy 48 hours producer who, to get back at his ex - and Letterman's ex - tried to blackmail someone.
He was Carson's hand-picked successor and got screwed by suits at NBC. Now he's finally the king where he should have been, and his ratings have only gone up with all this nonsense. It's a shame though, because he truly is the rare thing - a private many who happens to have fame. He lead a normal, middle class life, and after nearly 15 years of watching him, I still think he rocks.

10 years ago, David Letterman was, hands down, one of the best things on TV. The series premiere of Late Show with David Letterman was one of the biggest TV events in the history of my household. (I'd probably rank it #2, right behind the series finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation.) However, the man has just been resting on his laurels for the last decade. He's not funny anymore. And his politics are getting really obnoxious. He's a cranky old man who shouldn't be on TV anymore. (However, he's still better than Carson Daily.)
For me, I think it might be the opposite. I already knew enough about David Letterman's screwed up personal life. This new revelation doesn't surprise me. But with Conan O'Brien, I might be a bit more shocked & dismayed by it.

I used to like him okay. Thought he was somewhat funny. Overtime, his jokes became stale. His interviewing style has also become a bit more patronizing. I don’t think he likes a lot of his guests despite the front he puts on.
I wasn't overly surprised to learn of his sleeping with staff. I'm not a big fan of people dipping their pen in company ink. It often creates problems. I don't know the full circumstances (i.e. were the women married and/or was he cheating on his girlfriend/current wife). Things like that might make him more of a dope.

I voted "dislike him" but it's not really based on the sex scandal. Dave's been a grumpy old man for too long now and I haven't much cared for him since he left NBC. Thank god Seinfeld reruns were on opposite him and Leno.
I do appreciate how he owned up to what he had done, but then again, he was just manipulating the situation to make sure his point of view was the only point that got out there. Even if Dave's version of events isn't completely accurate, the guy who blackmailed him doesn't stand a chance since everyone knows and believes Dave's side of the story, and the tabliods can't really break the "scandalous news" since he did it himself.

This "scandal" actually did wonders for his last two performances. He was consistently funny for the first time in years.
I liked him up till a few years ago. He's lost his comedic edge. IMO, the funniest man on late night these days is Craig Ferguson.
I like him just fine. I'd rather watch Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert...but after that, Letterman.
And frankly, I don't care what he does in his personal sex life. None of our business anyway, and I like the fact that he called a blackmailer's bluff.
At least Letterman works for his dough. A blackmailer is just a scumbag criminal and deserves to be exposed for being exactly that.
