Dave Mack: The funniest sentence you've ever written

Tom Riker

Lieutenant
Shades of gray drifted into view from the left side of the viewscreen and soon dominiated the ships forward view.

*snortle*

Takes on a whole new meaning these days dude.

LOL!

I actually read the book out of curiosity, and I think it's one of the cleverest trolls on humanity ever put on paper - I don't remind romance fiction at all, but ohmigod is that stuff bad. My favorite line? "Don't worry, you expand too."

Were there 50 of them? :p

("snortle"? :guffaw:)

On the subject of perfectly innocent lines that nonethless conjure amusing images in the reader's mind, my favourite is in Plagues of Night when a machine "emits a series of trills". This made me briefly picture a sequence of spotted humanoids cheerily emerging from the device like clowns out of a little car. :)

How Ev'oq-ative.

It's less funny when read in context of the complete original sentence:
A titanic, pale blue gas giant with rings of varying shades of gray drifted into view from the left side of the viewscreen and soon dominated the ship’s forward view.
