Data instead of Worf on DS9. Thoughts?

There's always the possibility of a rejuvinated B4 being written into recurring cameos in future DS9 relaunch & TNG novels/literature.

[*] With Troi & Riker now transferred to the U.S.S. Titan, Worf's been reassigned from Strategic Officer of DS9, to Executive Officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise-E (in place of the now-discarded Martin Madden from "Nemesis".)

[*] An appearance by B4's quite likely with all of that water under the bridge and the fact Geordi's vehemently passed up the job of XO of the Enterprise-E (with encouragement in that direction by Scotty,).... even though Geordi was Picard's first choice... so anything's possible.

Actually that would have been a curious change. Data was fine when popping about on the Holiday Inn Enterprise. But imagine in DS9, a very different world. Religious strife, suicide runs by ships, occuptations, a vastly different mix of people (and so many of them not being Starfleet officers wouldn't need to be nice to Data).

It could have be fun. :D

If that had happened, I certainly would've watched more DS9. ;) It would've been very interesting to see Data there, and we already know he gets along fairly well with Bashir (see "Birthright pt. 1")

Yeah, that's a great point about 'Birthright.' Had Data come to DS9, he would also have had O'Brien to fall back on too (consider the events in 'Data's Day').

I think it would have been very interesting. Maybe he'd form a Geordi-type relationship with Dax, given their science backgrounds? On the other hand, I think we could have had some great discussions between him and Kira with regards to religion.

Again, very interesting stuff. I would have loved to have seen it.

He may act a bit more the way he acted in "Redemption" when he had his own ship. That was pretty good, he wasn't an exposition guy and didn't take no sh*t from anybody.

his coldblooded killing of Weyoun in "The Changing Face of Evil".

Yeah, cause Weyoun was an angel and never did anything wrong. He wasn't part of the force murdering millions of people in an effort to conquer the Alpha Quadrant.

It would have been extremely interesting to see how Data would have fit in to a darker and edgier show.

Even though I wasn't thrilled when they brought Worf aboard DS9, the thought of Data joining the gang would've really turned me off. I had more than enough of him during the last few seasons of TNG.

I thought about this the other week actually, i was really upset when Worf joined DS9, I hated the way the other characters had accommodate him.

Although I would prefer no TNG character joining the cast, i would have enjoyed seeing Data on DS9, plus they could have developed the emotion thingy, plus I would have love to have seen him have conversations with Weyoun, Garak, & Quark.

Hell I Tom Riker would have been a better addition to the cast than Worf IMO.

Okay,so what if Will Riker had been assigned instead of Sisko?
A relationship with Kira? Dax?
A more jokey sparring partner for Quark?
A different approach than on the Enterprise?

What if they assigned O'Brien and Ro Laren in S1... with Worf and Data in S4? TNG-themed fun!

Ro Laren: Hey, remember that time I shifted phase?
Worf: That was... unnerving. But what about the time I kept shifting through universes?
O'Brien: Or I was posessed by those weird alien things?
Data: Or when my brother tried to run the Borg?
(canned laughter)
Sisko: Guys, we've got a Dominion War to fight.
Worf: Why should we?
Sisko: It's a cliffhanger! It's exciting!
(pause)
Data: A cliffhanger? (Riker voice) Mr. Worf... fire!
(canned laughter)

Why not? If the TNG writers didn't use the reset button for him in each episode, he'd be the most developed character out of the whole cast.

I'd rather have Pulaski on DS9 in some capacity than Data any day.

Not to replace Bashir, mind you, because he's a kickass character (who can forget him thoughtlessly and unknowingly pushing Kira to the point of nearly beating the shit out of him in Emissary?), but I would've liked to see Pulaski interact with the people on DS9.

Data was tiresome IMO.

Other than the "exploration of humanity" thing with TNG, there was nowhere else for the character to go.

I agree, though the same could be said of almost any Trek character...would O'Brien be the same man after all the shit he's been through?

But I think Data on DS9 could have been great...a further step in his development, and a real wrench in the workings of what we think of as DS9.

DS9 needed to make its own way and form its own identity.

O'Brien was fine, because he wasn't widely used on TNG.

Worf fitted in quite well and the character was further developed, before INS and NEM made him into a joke.

But that's as far as it should have gone regarding TNG.

If Data could have evolved a bit under the influences of the many disparate characters on DS9, the religious Bajorans and their prophets, he might have been an even more interesting character in the various TNG movies. He couldn't have helped but to become a deeper character.

As it was, I think Worf was a great character to mix with the station's crew, and I don't feel like we missed a great opportunity. Worf played very well with all the characters, especially Sisko, Jadzia and Martok. Data would have never ordered prune juice in Quark's, or lost at the Dabo tables. :)

I really can't see any other TNG character working as well on DS9 as Worf did. His character really fit the tone of the show. Any other TNG character would've stuck out as a sore thumb...except Ro but I'm mainly speaking of the series regulars.
