Daredevil season 3 Marvel/Netflix

Wow. I wasn't expecting season 3 until March or April. Maybe Punisher season 2 will take that spot if the 10-19 date is indeed true.
Yeah, I didn't think we would get season 3 until early next year, even with recent media reports saying it would be out later this year when talking about Iron Fist season 2. Hopefully the October 19 date is real because I would love to have that season so soon.

I was musing about this the other day: This will be the first year we'll have all four of the Netflix shows (before they decided to do The Punisher) releasing seasons in a single calender year.

I also wonder that now the shows have moved passed The Defenders, will each of those shows have more stable schedules and release seasons roughly once a year (assuming they all remain popular and profitable)? Previously, it was the slow rollout of the Netflix street universe (so slow that Daredevil got a second season before The Defenders) and now we're only just reaching the point where all four shows have had a season after The Defenders. We know Jessica Jones is already beginning filming its season 3 and I think Luke Cage has entered pre-production for its season 3 (but I could be wrong), so it looks like that might be case.

10-19 is a lot sooner than I was expecting, I'd seen reports it would be out this year, but I figured it would be late December.

That is really soon. I still have to get through Luke Cage S2 (and maybe check out IF Season 2, because at this point I'm desperate for superhero shows), which feels like it just came out.

I hope that it proves to be better than Season 2. The best thing about that season were Elektra Natchios and Frank Castle. Otherwise . . . between Matt's self-righteousness, having two story arcs that barely connected, the lame Matt/Karen romance, and the lack of a strong villain; Season 2 was a mess.

Good to have that date confirmed, but I'm surprised they didn't just release a proper trailer considering the season is out in a month.

October 19 is indeed much sooner than any of us could have hoped for.

After getting 4 Marvel Netflix shows this year, it would be a bit of a disappointment to only get three next year. And it's safe to say that only getting two would be pretty unrealistic. (People would be posting warnings all over the internet about the death of the Marvel Netflix universe.)

So should we hope for 4 again next year?
-Punisher season 2 is confirmed
-Jessica Jones season 3 is coming
-Luke Cage season 3 is coming too
-what would the 4th be? Iron Fist? Or maybe straight into a Daughters of the Dragon or Heroes For Hire teamup? Or maybe someone new, like Moon Knight?

At this point, with Disney starting their Disney Play streaming service next year, with reports of numerous Marvel tv shows on that, would Disney even allow Netflix to have access to more new characters like Moon Knight? Since we've heard that the Netflix shows won't be on Disney Play, that would basically be Disney giving up content.

Thinking about it further, is that a reason for characters like Bushmaster and Davos surviving past the end of their main villain arcs in those shows? If Netflix now has a much more limited roster of characters, they're not going to want to kill too many off, and will keep them around so they can use them again when needed.

I would be surprised if Netflix is able to develop any more shows in light of Disney's upcoming streaming platform. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the Netflix shows will stay put, which makes sense on a logistical level, but I can't see Disney allowing Netflix to create any more shows, even if they're spin-offs like The Punisher.

That might depend on Disney's strategy for its streaming channel. If it wants the channel to be committed to strictly family based entertainment then there might still be space for mature themed Marvel shows on Netflix. There are already multiple Marvel shows spread around various Networks (I don't know if those are all Disney owned) including Hulu at the moment and those shows were allowed to go into development after Disney already had plans for their streaming network.

It's just good business to offer content aimed at multiple distinct audiences, and Disney is ultimately a profit-seeking corporation above all else. Disney has been trying to expand its brand beyond kid-friendly stuff since it made the PG-rated The Black Hole in 1979 (back when the PG rating meant roughly what PG-13 means today), as well as other more adult-skewing films like The Watcher in the Woods, TRON, and Something Wicked This Way Comes, eventually leading to the establishment of the Touchstone Pictures imprint, since the kid-stuff stereotype attached to the Disney name was too strong so they had to release the older-skewing stuff under a different label.

I'm pretty sure they've already said that they'll be keeping all of the content on Disney Play at family friendly level. They will have PG-13 stuff like the Disney Star Wars movies, and the MCU movies but that's as far as it's going to go.

An exclusive EW piece on season3.

Rrgh. I've just seen both Jessica Jones and Luke Cage spend the last season isolating themselves from their friends and allies and going to a darker place. I'm not eager to see Daredevil do the same. Okay, maybe he'll end the season in a better place than he started it, but still, I'm getting tired of the repetition.

I'm surprised they quickly revealed that Matt and Foggy are reunited at some point. I mean, I figured it would happen but I wish it was left a mystery and surprise until it actually happened.

Everything else sounds pretty promising and I'm really stoked about the upcoming season.

I can see why you might be tired of that situation but honestly it makes the most sense with Matt Murdock and how his character has been written in the show (and in the comics, too). I do find it a little weird that it happened with Luke and I'm still coming to terms with how season two ended, but I have to say isolating Jessica makes a lot of sense, too. I don't really see it as problem as long as the characters aren't stagnant and learn from their experiences of being isolated. It's hardly a new notions for character-driven plots in general.

If Matt doesn't reunite with his supporting cast, how could they endlessly rag on him for being Daredevil?

Yeah, but they're all doing it at the same time. Even Iron Fist had something similar with Danny getting addicted to the power, although that turned out more positively and satisfyingly (and I never thought I'd be saying that about Iron Fist). It's like, find a new trick, people.

I'm down with that. While the first season one of Jessica Jones is my favorite season of the Netflix shows, Daredevil remains my favorite overall show with the best supporting cast (to include Vincent D'Onofrio). If they think they have great stories to tell, then keep the seasons coming!

Eh, I don't think it's that big of a deal because each of them are doing it differently: Matt is presumed dead (after ostracizing his closest friends because of his ideologies), Jessica was always a loner aside from Trish, and Luke forced himself into isolation as a power play.
