Spoilers Daredevil: Born Again discussion thread

So that psychiatrist has just become cartoonishly evil. I still don't understand how a serial killer attacking her makes her hate vigilantes to the point of becoming irredeemably evil, its almost like there is no connection but the show needed more drama so it made a connection up.
You probably know nothing of trauma. Nothing particularly "cartoonish" about Heather. She's being ruled by her trauma and it informs what she does.

Excellent start to the season. Right out of the gate, there are already lots of moving parts and I appreciate how the episode didn't slow down the pace to keep the viewer up to speed on everything.

I loved seeing Matt and Karen working hand-in-hand in their underground operation against Fisk, even if Matt seems a bit naïve on how he thinks he can topple Fisk down with public opinion. At least Karen keeps him on honest on that reality. Good to see Karen digging into her investigative role again and I loved her quiet scene with BB, reflecting on Ben's legacy.

Speaking of which, I'm very curious to the nature of both BB's false upbeat reporting...and whoever is calling her out. Whoever that person is, they have access to to the Northern Star's security feed. Supposedly only Fisk's people have access to it but why would produce such a hit piece on himself? Clearly there's something more than meet's the eye there.

Which the same could be said about Mr. Charles. He says he's Langley and clearly has the means to easily influence the New York state attorney general, but something about his demeanor and his conversation with the Fisks suggests he's something very different. I don't know much about Daredevil lore but I can't help but wonder if the repeated shots at his ring are trying to hint at a known character.

While I'm not a fan of Heather's dark turn towards bending the facts against patients for the "greater good" of anti-vigilantism, I'm grateful that the season is going to explore her near-death trauma at the hands of Muse. I'm curious to see what direction that'll take and hopefully it's more than just making her patients look insane for the upcoming anti-vigilantism trials that are clearly going to make a mockery of the justice system.

This first episode back hits really hard in light of the insanity of the real world. Whether it's statements that evidence doesn't matter in the court of law or how the Anti-Vigilante Strike Force hits way too close to home with ICE's continuously horrific actions. I don't want to draw too much to real-world parallels but fuck that really stood out in this episode.

As for that ending, it's one hell of a thing to watch Matt deal with the sudden death of another close friend...and this time Bullseye is the hero (at least in this moment)? Madness! I love it.

I think it's BB under the Fisk mask and she using something to distort her voice. She's using her connection to Daniel to get info from Fisk's organization.

Mr. Charles is connected to Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine, who name alone will bring people to heel. He seems to be an original character.

That makes the most sense and certainly would be a funny way to use her journalistic voice. Tearing herself down from behind with inside information. Neat trick if ture.

Where did you get the Val connection? Did I miss something?

I enjoyed it but it's a bit busy. Lots of people talking, walking and talking, meeting in secret and talking. Definitely not a place for new viewers to jump in.

I mean, it's the second/fourth/fourth-and-a-half season. Not every season should be the perfect jumping point for new viewers. Last season? Absolutely since it was relaunching the series. Here? No, some prior knowledge is necessary and expected.

Besides, we did get a great opening action piece to start the season (and wasn't the only action piece).

The phone call to the AG was from a "Miss De Fontaine".
Which makes me wonder about the timeline. If the New Avengers "own" her at this point, then she's still doing the shady shit behind their backs.

That said, I'm glad they finally drew a direct line between DeFontaine and Fisk as their connection was only shown in a pretty roundabout manner before. One would have had to have watched both Hawkeye and Black Widow to make that connection in the past.

Is there a Born Again spoiler in the Spider-Man trailer?

At the 0:36 mark, we see Fisk's political advisor Sheila Rivera presenting the key to the city to Spider-Man. This is not something I can see happening in a New York still under Fisk's thumb. Also, she seems to get through to the other side of this whole mess unscathed.

Yeah, I've been wondering about that, too. Could be simply a case of Fisk thinking that's beneath him and delegated Sheila to that duty.

^ Whereas, I read that she was going to have a role similar in size to what Frank Castle had in season 1.

Maybe, but it seems like we've already seen clips from more different scene with her than we got with Frank is Season 1.

I was a little confused by that, I thought Matt saved her from Muse, so I would have expected that to make her pro-vigilante. But instead she seems to be associating Muse himself with vigilantes, which was definitely not.

I had the same thought, and it lines up with her line about not writing everything under her own name in the recap. At one point you could see the person's wrists between the sleeves and gloves and they appeared to be black.
So that's two points in favor of it being BB.

I thought it was a great start the season. It was nice seeing Karen playing such a big role, after she was in so little of Season 1.
The parallels to our current national situation are pretty clear.
I'm disappointed with the big death at the end of the episode, they were one of my favorite characters.
That person who saved Matt at the end was a surprise. Definitely curious where they're going with that.

Even though we're only one episode into Season 2, Charlie Cox, Dario Scardapane, and Sana Amanat are already teasing Season 3, which is currently filming in NYC.

They more or less confirm that this season is the end of the Mayor Fisk storyline, and that we'll be getting something new next season. Charlie Cox calls it a "new book" and that they've "shed the skin of the Mayor Fisk era".

The MCU is a very dark place for common citizens. Just one phone call and Fisk is authorized to make New York his personal kingdom where he lays down the law.

Yeah I completely missed that the first time.
Even after watching Thunderbolts* I am not sure what Val‘s power base really is?
She is running a sort of black ops business , but what does she have on elected officials and what sort of intelligence network does she have beyond a few paid assassins?
Why can she call a governor or senator and just demand to look the other way when it comes to major corruption and illegal weapons trading?

She's the head of the CIA.
