Spoilers Daredevil: Born Again discussion thread

I think D'Onofrio wears a fat suit for Fisk, so it had to have been just part of the story,
Yeah I read that somewhere. I wouldn't to gain the real weight, either. Which I think he did in the Netflix series.

When Fisk was talking to Jack, Jack should have said something along the lines of, "Hey, isn't my ex-fiance in prison because she tried to frame me in order to cover up crimes for you?"

Interesting. I actually thought he had put on weight due to the way his face looked. Unless that was prosthetics or CG.

Uh, is Muse to be considered superhuman or is it normal in the MCU for a normal human being to suffer such punishment and then walk away peacefully?

So, finally had the chance to watch the double episode of this week.

Episode 5 easily the weakest. A standard bank heist with Matt getting caught up in it and it somehow fizzles out in the end without much interesting happening in between other than shoehorning a pseudo cameo in there in the form of Kamala Khans' father and her being namedropped a couple of times ( and Hawkeye's Swordsman also gets to cameo).

Episode 6 a little better if only for Muse being a creepy villain but otherwise the show is still treading water in the same place. Did we need to see Fisk being an evil gangster for the xth time when he used Adam as a punching bag/stress release? We know Fisk is a bad guy.

And Matt, somehow gaining the GPS superpower to detect people's hideouts in a huge honking city, is still struggling in his Daredevil persona to keep his rage in check.

After a good start i am wondering 6 episodes in what this season is about both in plot but also character development because there is barely any. The episodes just go through the motions, they made a big fuss about cameos from the Netflix era only for them to be killed off/written out after 10 minutes or have one ( admittedly cool) scene so far between Frank and Matt and i daresay that judging from the season trailers and teasers Frank will come in a second time and gun down that police Punisher gang in an episode with ultraviolence and that will be it.

I'm starting to get disappointed with the season so far - it looks like the showrunners took elements from the Netflix era, some of the things that were already filmed but then scrapped and then went through the comics to find a cool villain so they could put everything into a blender hoping an awesome show would come out.
Well, so far it's honestly mediocre to me because i expected more. There are glimpses of greatness actingwise, D'Onofrio kills it as well as Cox and acting wise his scene with Bernthal was awesome but the theme of that discussion is just a rehash of the one they already had in Daredevil season 2, when they first met.

I hope the remaining 3 episodes bring all this together and they show something new or some kind of development.

And I'm disappointed that this series doesn't use the Big & Rich banger "Born Again" for a theme song: :p

A pretty good episode, I didn't think it was quite as good as the first couple episodes or last week's.
I'm really shocked they killed Muse already, I just read an interview where one of the producers said he was going to continue into Season 2. So now I'm not sure if I misunderstood or if that was a lie. I guess maybe there could be some kind of twist that will let him keep showing up.
I have a feeling it's not going to take Heather long to figure out that Matt is Daredevil now that she knows he knows her name.
Hmm, so who exactly was Vanessa setting up there at the end?

"He's back."

I was really hoping the show would avoid the obvious "serial killer kidnaps the hero's lover which leads to the inevitable face-off between the two with her life on the line" cliché but the show went there anyways. But at least it did do one interesting with it: Heather stood her ground and murdered the fucker in self-defense. I'm curious to see the psychological after effects of her actions for the rest the season and hopefully beyond (assuming Heather continues on to the second season).

I also wish the show had given us one or two sessions between Heather and Sebastian before this face-off, but I guess that would've been "too much" therapy along with her sessions with Wilson and Vanessa (which are even more vital to the show). Maybe with a longer season...(heh, the Netflix seasons were "too long," the Disney seasons are "too short," I guess we'll never find a balance...).

Overall, I'm glad the Muse arc is already over so the show can refocus to the true meat and potatoes of the show: Matt versus Wilson. I eagerly look forward to what the final two episodes will give us in that regard.

Didn't hit me until this episode but does anyone else see the similarities between James Wesley and Buck Cashman? Both are Wilson's trusted right-hand men who will do anything for their boss, both have immaculate appearances, and they look remarkably similar physically (mind you, low bar, for generic white men with short haircuts and business serious attire). Perhaps I'm seeing things that aren't there but it suddenly leaped out to me during Buck's conversation with Fisk about the merits of allowing Daredevil to take down Muse.

Lastly, I loved the conversation between Matt and Heather during the morning after "post-Daredevil shower sex" scene, focusing on Matt's trauma and his inability to keep his two lives separated and how close everything will fall apart yet again because of that inability. I need more scenes like that, delving deeper into Matt's broken existence.

Good episode.

I loved that they gave a bit more "meat" to the Muse character and surprised that he was killed off so soon. This is my only critique concerning the character, i.e. they should have built him up better and with a longer storyline. I think it was the 4th episode where we see a glimpse of him and one big fight in the last episode and now his end. Just felt a bit too rushed and potential wasted what could have been easily a strong villain playing cat and mouse with Matt and even Fisk.

Loved how they disposed of that street gangster, i knew he would not live long after challenging and insulting Fisk in his own office. Monumentally stupid though but nice to see Vanessa and Wilson team up to solve this problem when the "nice" way didn't work out.

Wesley was ten times the character that Buck is but it's not the fault of Buck since he got way more screentime and development, which made his demise that much more impactful for Fisk and Karen. Really missed him, he was a great character.

They serve the same function, he's just not well developed as a character.

Loathe the other guy though and his slimey, asskissing ways so i guess the writing works when one loathes a character

No doubt, I agree Wesley is the far better character. I was just struck by how Buck seemed to echo Wesley, if only on a superficial level. In fact, until the aforementioned conversation between Buck and Wilson, Buck didn't have much substance at all. Hopefully the show will build on from that moment.
