News Daniel Craig signs up for Bond 25, Christopher Nolan in talks to direct

Some news reports today sound like Richard Madden has it in the bag.

I doubt it's anywhere that sorted, but I could live with the casting. I wouldn't want the casting lightening and a dour Scott would certainly prevent that.

I'd hope a trace of a Scottish accent would remain...

While Madden may eventually well land the role, I would be surprised if Eon opted to overshadow Craig’s swansong by announcing his replacement before they even release the film.

I think it was implying he'd be Bond in time for the next movie. Craig's participation seems suspect with the delays and changes...

It comes from the mail on Sunday so I’m sceptical about it. Madden is riding high at the minute on the strength of reviews for Bodyguard but a few months ago the tabloids were telling us that it would go to James Norton because of his role in McMafia.

I agree with Captaindemotion. There's no way Eon would upstage their current James Bond before they've begun filming his last movie.

Madden would be a solid choice and different enough from Craig to stand out, but again, no way this news is true now.

THIS. I would be OUTRAGED if I was Craig. Choosing the new Bond and letting it known before filming even begins on Craig's last? No. It's not gonna happen. They might be talking, but, I really doubt anything serious would happen.

If it helps, though, I agree that Dalton was pretty much everything I ever wanted in a cinematic Bond.

Dalton is my Bond, Craig is a close second though and Roge is 3rd so that hopefully explains that I'm happy with any shade of Bond!

I think when Bodyguard came out some satire pages ran headlines of "British actor who looks good running in a suit lined up to be next Bond." I've lost count how many times I've seen this. It's the laziest kind of "journalism" imaginable.

I'd be surprised if Madden wasn't on a list somewhere (a very long list) but I agree, there's no way Eon would do anything obvious before Bond #25 has even started shooting! Besides I've read a few things to suggest Barbara Broccoli hasn't given up on the idea of persuading Craig to do another one! (I don't think he will, but then I didn't think he'd do #25 either so what do I know)

Let him go, Barbara, let him go...

As I said, it's been implied that Craig's not doing the next one, that he walked away following the Danny Boyle exit. Thus they're not looking to cast for the next but one movie, they're looking to recast for the one already in pre-production.

Probably BS, but...

Yeah, until there's official word that Craig is out for the upcoming one.... yeah, agreed, BS.

Boyle's leaving likely had Craig's tacit agreement, as did the hiring of Cary Joji Fukunaga because he's heavily invested in the production team now. There was a moment, months ago when Boyle was still at the helm, when I wondered if he was going to walk, but not now, everyone has too much invested in this film, and with filming slated to start in less than six months the rigmarole of trying to cast a new Bond would be ridiculous. If Craig was going to leave the best time would have been when Boyle did, it would have been pretty seismic but better to get all your bad news out on the same day than go for some kind of slow drip-feed water torture.

Irrespective of his apparent disdain for the role at times, Daniel Craig does strike me as a professional, a grumpy professional but a professional none the less, he's signed on to do at least one more and he'll do one more barring becoming physically incapable or Eon deciding to jettison him (which would cost them a ridiculous amount of money to do)

In light of some comments Craig's been making since agreeing to be in this film, I've been wondering if maybe the whole "I'd rather slit my wrists and eat glass" routine was more a reflection on his opinion of Spectre rather than his attitude towards the Bond role.

And it did follow months of hard work--it can't be physically easy to make a Bond film.

It's always from the studio's point of view. Not every change to a male character is due to 'social justice Twitterites'.

I beg to differ: a lot of what's happening now is due to said 'social justice Twitterites' and then some. None of them know how to create their own characters (or even write them), so they do this, and have been doing this, for a while.

Will Shetterly said it best a while ago in several posts on his blog about this current situation: https://shetterly.blogspot.com/search?q=Social+Justice&m=1

Ultimately, if the studio thinks more people are going to be interested in a black Bond, female Bond, or whatever, they're going to go with that. SJWs and discussions like these are both part of changing times.

Honestly, I don't care if Bond is a woman or has a different skin colour. Just get the character right and you're fine.
