News Daniel Craig signs up for Bond 25, Christopher Nolan in talks to direct

Bond is charming, goes on adventures, and seems to kill and love without ever getting entangled. It's the escapist appeal of the character. Having Bond depressed, weak, or forming some weird mother/son thing with M just seems to miss the point entirely. I think what they need to do is pick a more charming, lighthearted Bond. Honestly, my top pick would be Matt Smith.
Wouldn't watch that abomination if Smith OO7 was on TV. NO, that is terrible casting at it's core--it's Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne. Matt Smith is my favorite Doctor on Doctor Who but if he was cast I would hibernate his run until he was done... like what I'll be doing with the "SJW Doctor".

Also Michael Keaton is arguably the best Bruce Wayne so...

That said, I dunno I love Matt to bits but I can't see him as Bond. I'd like Henry Cavill or Aiden Turner as 007 next, giving John Boyega time to age up a bit as the Bond after next...

Yet another reason to love Barbara Broccoli, who knows what's up and guards 007 like a hawk, and has for over 20 years now. Via an interview with The Guardian:

Speaking to the Guardian, 007’s executive producer Barbara Broccoli ruled out any Doctor Who-style gender reinvention for Ian Fleming’s super-spy.
“Bond is male,” she said. “He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male.

“And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women. Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.”
Hark! She speaketh sense! What is this newfangled idea that male characters should stay male?! Surely she hasn't heard how sexist it is?!?!?! Perhaps she should have a word with Paul Feig to correct this Wrongthink.

She does say, however, that she would welcome female screenwriters and directors. Which, again, makes perfect sense. She's a good egg.

There's always this idea that female characters are pushed because of some equality agenda, and that's usually how studios spin it. The real reason is that it's an easy way to push up ratings and get seats filled. I doubt anyone in entertainment cares about sexism more than their bottom line.

John Boyega? Yeesh, no. Idris Elba, sure. I would've gotten behind him. He's got the right look, manner, etc. But maybe I need to see Boyega in more stuff because right now? No. Cavill, yeah. Especially considering they tested him before casting Daniel Craig. Wisely, they passed on him because he was like 22 at the time. Now, he could do it.

Henry Cavill is my choice to play Bond after Craig hangs up the PPK.

Hemsworth has been sporting a new more conservative "GQ" look lately. I wonder if he intends to put his hat in the ring.

I was about to protest Hemsworth since he's in fact Australian, but then, so was Lazenby, so never mind me.

As for Cavill, I don't. He seems a bit too "traditional" and therefore bland. I'd like it if the continued what they started with Craig and looked at more unconventional actors for the role.

Yup. Cavill perfectly represents 'blandly handsome'. As much as Roger Moore gets hated on for his campier movies, I kinda wish they'd go back to that sort of thing. Good looking, but more charming thanks to his wit and personality than his looks. Hard to get poster boy looks with depth and personality.

Again, that's how it is in the books. Bond is supposed to be handsome but not head-turning. Not that I think everything needs to follow the books, but I think that's something to carry over.

Henry Cavill is my choice for Bond, as well. In fact, him getting Bond would be the only thing that would let me forgive DC for firing him as Superman.

Another man who would have been an awesome Bond (looking back now) would have been Colin Firth. Of course, he's a bit too old now (58), but he could work if they wanted to do a few movies with Bond close to or coming out of retirement for one last mission (or four :) )

No, no, no... beyond his lack of manly facial hair, he also has the emotional acting range of a refrigerator.
I think he has a good amount of charisma to do the job. I think he'd be more in the vain of Brosnan. As much as I like Craig, his cold emotionless portrayal is wearing a bit thin on me.

He's not emotionless. His range focuses on grim happiness to insane rage.
Brosnan was in the disinterested humor to disinterested anger zone.
Cavill does polite confusion well.... and that's about it.

Always thought younger Jason Isaacs would be good. Handsome without being pretty. Could pull off tough yet charming. Also, that touch of danger that makes Sean Connery and Daniel Craig so effective.
