Daniel Craig offered the part of Thor

What the hell? Scrawny Daniel Craig as Thor? Are they nuts!?

Thor has to be tall and imposing, he's the Viking god of thunder for f's sake.

Why, was Russell Crowe "too fat" nowadays to be considered for this role?

He's the man who won the Academy Award for Gladiaor (2000), so a role like Thor should be a shoe-in for him.

Russell Crowe isn't too fat, he's too short.
Fans should brace themselves for disappointment when the lead role is cast. Really, what are the chances that the director will find a 6'6" actor who weighs 300 lbs? These are the essential requirements for the role of Thor, as far as fans are concerned.

How large were the chances there was a Christopher Reeve for the role of Superman?

And maybe they'll come up with someone totally unexpected like Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.

That casting choice was regarded as.. bold by many but when we saw the first pictures, saw him in the first scenes and in finally in the movie it became apparent as a brilliant choice.
Now the character is forever linked to Downey and i hope the same happens with Thor.

One possibility however may be that they are looking for two actors actually.. Dr. Donald Blake for one where Craig, McKidd or someone else would fit perfectly as Thor's human side and then someone with the physique to play a norse god.

One actor to play both may prove very tricky to find because they either lack the physique or the acting chops to play both.

About the only one i can think of currently would indeed be Brad Pitt in his Troy state but he may be outside the budget for the project and maybe even a too big name for the movie.. easily becoming a Brad Pitt movie accidentally labeled Thor rather than Thor with a known but not AA+ level actor.

I'm afraid that fan requirements for Thor are tougher to meet than those for Superman.

Well, Craig is a Nordic God. mreowww

The only guy who could make me think Bond is sexy....

Funny, since he has to be the ugliest guy ever to play Bond.

Sexiness isn't about being a pretty boy. There's a zillion and one pouty-lipped Adonises out there who haven't a drop of sex appeal. Ever seen Heroes? Pretty, pretty men - who couldn't get my panties off with a dozen roses and the promise of a 2-hour tongue bath. Mr. Craig could merely growl in my general direction and butter would melt on my thighs.

Note to self: Start practicing your growl.

If Craig had been Thor could Brosnan be Tony stark :D

Let's face it, one man was born for the role:

Of course, we could always beg the Technoviking, but us lowly mortals dare not, lest he smite us in a fit of rage.

I agree there are many Wrestlers who could have the perfect physique :klingon:
the problem is 99% of Wrestlers got the acting skills of a pile of squirrel vomit :wtf:

Clancy Brown might have been a contender if the movie was made 10 years ago.
Thor : I'm thinking the acting intensity of Kiefer Sutherland but the strong physique of the big germanic dude from the movie Gladiator
