He was half of England Dan & John Ford Coley, a soft rock duo in the late 70's, before going country.

Their biggest hit, I'd Really Love To See You Tonight got a lot of airplay, but they had 6 top 40 singles.

I always think he was in Seals & Crofts, but that was his brother Jim Seals.
