CW network working on Batwoman series

Pilot aiming for mid-season, the show is still not ordered to series though.

“Greg is in early stages of development at this point,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz today. Batwoman was initially announced to be a major part of a December DC crossover event before CW announced a series.

“We’ll do a pilot for mid-season, whether it goes to series, I cannot tell you,” said Pedowitz about the status quo, “We have five (DC shows) on the air and just added a sixth night.”

Its weird you say that, because SG-1 Seasons 8-10 and Smallville 8-10 are my favorite seasons of those shows

I think SG-1 had a couple of dips in quality over its run, but always seemed to recover. Similarly Smallville changed its focus over the last few years of its run and, for me, ended on a high note. Supernatural had a dip in quality after the initial five season arc but recovered nicely with some seasons being better than others and this past season being one of the best IMO.

Apparently he won't be in it, though he didn't specify whether or not Batman exists in whichever universe Batwoman is set in.

I like it. I thought she was properly menacing in John Wick 2. Be interesting to see the accent she brings to the part.

She was terrible in Orange is the New Black. She was good in John Wick 2, but she didn't have to actually speak in it...

He specifically said "Batman already exists in the Arrowverse because last season Oliver Queen mentioned his name at one point." I don't think he would've said that if not to indicate that Batman exists in the show's universe. Besides, the Batman of Earth-38 has been implicitly referenced at least twice, so there's reason to believe Batman exists on both worlds.

Oh, that's interesting. I was hoping for an actress of color, maybe Asian, but Ruby Rose does rather look the part.

Wasn't it Bruce Wayne he mentioned, not Batman? We might have a Bruce Wayne, doesn't mean he's Batman. Or it was Batman mentioned, and I forgot.

Yes, that's exactly my point. Oliver Queen referred to Bruce Wayne, but CW President Mark Pedowitz said in his quote that Oliver Queen referred to Batman. I take that as confirmation that the Bruce Wayne of Earth-1 is intended to be Batman. And it implies to me that the Batwoman crossover will take place on Earth-1, otherwise Pedowitz would've had no reason to bring up Oliver's line in connection with it.

Asuming that Mark didn't misspoke, then yeah, we can conclude Batman is part of Earth One. Can't wait to see what the actual plot will be.

I was hoping Batwoman would be on Earth-38, both because it would balance out the worlds more and because it's a pretty natural fit with Supergirl. But if it is on Earth-1, I can imagine how it might be an excuse to bring Supergirl over for the crossover. Maybe Barry's heard Kara talk about her cousin Clark's bat-themed vigilante friend in Gotham on her world, so when they run into a problem involving a bat-vigilante in Gotham on their world, they contact Kara for advice and she comes over to help. And maybe it turns out the bat-vigilante isn't the one they were expecting.

Hollywood has been trying to make her the next breakout for 2-3yrs now and I've not been impressed.
She has at best been adequate to meh in the roles I've seen her in these projects.
Resident Evil the Final Chapter
xXx: Return of Xander Cage
John Wick 2

My wife has Pitch Perfect 3 but I've not watched it yet. I'll watch Meg on Netflix in about November.
I'm let down by this casting as I don't think she is a solid actress.

huh.. Ruby Rose.. Only seen her in John Wick.. she didn't speak.. Guess we'll see, hoping for a pleasnt surprise!
And oh.. Hollywood.. Please stop casting 90 lbs soaking wet actresses for physical intensive parts.. I watch American Ninja warrior.. those girls are.. Built!.. Get someone with some muscle! :)

I've only seen her in Dark Matter and John Wick 2 and she was alright in both, she definitely looks the part, and they've had a good track record casting so far so it's a :techman: from me. Surprised so many people are already writing her off in the comments.

Ruby Rose...lol. Lazy ass casting, but it works in this context. She was the first name that came to mind when they said they wanted an openly lesbian actress. She's a poor actress, but by CW standards she's fine.

I wonder if they'll let her keep her Justin Bieber tattoo-ed look and reinvent the character the look like her.

This is good visual casting. Perhaps Ruby Rose will shine in this role more than she did in Orange. She was dreadful in that. I'm not familiar at all with the new version of Batwoman but from what I've read about her adventures it sounds like it could be a good show.

Uhh... You do know that muscles are developed through exercise, right? That a person's level of muscularity is not an immutable constant? That actors routinely adjust how muscular they are to fit a given part? Seriously, man, we went through this exact same bodyshaming nonsense when Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman. Hell, we went through it 40 years ago with Christopher Reeve.
