Yeah, I'm a Trek fan and a lover of all things genre and manly, but this show is pretty good. It's a remake of a 1998 series (cancelled about as fast as Firefly) that was about a guy who thinks he is (or may actually be?) Cupid, god of love. It deals with the relationship between him and the psychologist who thinks he's delusional. He's been expelled from Mount Olympus (for some reason) and needs to hook 100 couples up in order to go back. In the mean time, he's mortal.

Yeah, it's romantic comic fluff, but both the original and the remake (both made by Veronica Mars's Rob Thomas) are inspired in the way that they present a good "romantic procedural." The main attraction is the dialogue. It's smart and it's snappy. It's almost Whedonesque, if he decided to devote his creative talents to chick flicks. People who've seen Veronica know what I mean.

The second episode of "Cupid 2009" aired tonight and I'm happy to say it was better than the first episode, which didn't quite live up to the original incarnation. The original starred Jeremy Piven as a fast-talking Olympic God, so as you can imagine the new one has big shoes to fill. Sadly, the original hasn't seen DVD yet, but it can certainly be found online (which is how I watched it) with a ridiculously small amount of effort. There's only 15 episodes, you owe it to yourself to do it.

The new show stars Sarah Paulson (Studio 60) and Bobby Cannavale (who the hell knows?). It's not quite as good as the original yet but it's still pretty damn good. The main problem is that Cannavale plays Trevor (aka Cupid) as less manic than Piven did. But it's still pretty damn endearing. And it's all written by Rob Thomas so it's gotta kick ass, right?

Cupid airs at 10 on Tuesdays. Check it out, it deserves a shot.

I haven't seen the second ep yet, but I will later today. I quite enjoyed the pilot, though it wasn't as good as the original show. But then, there is only one Jeremy Piven. ;) And Sarah Paulson is no Paula Marshall.

All I've seen of it so far are the commercials, and the guy in Piven's role looked like some kind of cromagnon clod that was passed over for the brother role on Everybody Loves Raymond. It was a complete turn off for me; haven't even tried to remember to watch it. :klingon:
