That's basically what I thought at first. Personally, I think real-life crushes are based on looks primarily, and one tends to be infatuated with a person. But as AstroSmurf pointed out, just in the spirit of fun, you could send in your list. It's not as if you're expecting anything out of it. The people that I put on my list don't even post here in MISC or visit the BBS board anymore, but I thought they were cute, funny, witty, or had a charming personality.

I just thought about pointing out that mine involves a modicum of physical attraction, since I'm not able to develop a "crush" if I'm not attracted to that person.

And I definitively do not expect anything, since I'm already taken. And my fiancee is also my jujutsu training partner...

Such a thread wouldn't have to be anonymous would it? A sort of "Forumers you'd like to have a pint with?" type dealio. Though mine would pretty much be who I have on twitter.

I'll admit, I submitted a name (or names) to Holdfast in this thread even though I'm married simply because it's anonymous. I'm not looking for a cupid match, but it's a way to boost someone's ego and know that they are admired without dealing with the baggage that comes along with the rest of it. I'd wager that the vast majority of submissions here aren't even serious crushes, just more light-hearted fun.

The non-anonymous threads about posters that you like always turn into a fiasco, because people get left off lists, or they get upset that they listed someone and weren't listed back, or you have the people just flooding into the thread going "I noticed no one mentioned me" without making lists of their own. Or you have the people that just say "I like everyone!" which is kind of a cop-out response but how I often feel.

I'm not saying you shouldn't start one, because I think positive threads like that are needed around here every once in awhile. Just, they come with their own landmines.

Isn't there already a TrekBBS Meet-up thread somewhere? That's more for posters who'd like to meet their on-line buddies face-to-face. Frankly, I have never in my life met with an on-line acquaintance in person (although I'm not totally opposed to the idea). It's just that my weekends and off days are already busy with appointments and other stuff, and I don't know anyone intimately enough to meet with them.

It's just that my weekends and off days are already busy with appointments and other stuff, and I don't know anyone intimately enough to meet with them.

It might well be the people you would like to meet live on the other side of the world - big complication right there. A thread like that would be the next best thing. A way to find out who would go for drinks with you if you were in the same country and you invited them.
