CSI Star Trek Parody

the Thursday April 16th episode of CSI Las Vegas. CSI is doing it’s own science fiction parody. The episode entitled “A Space Oddity” involves Hodges and Wendy taking some vacation time in order to attend a convention for their favorite show “Astro Quest.”
The clip shows a fantasy sequence in which Hodges imagines himself the captain of a starship that's not the Enterprise—though it has the Enterprise's sound effects and background score—who expresses his feelings for Yeoman Wendy, who is not Yeoman Rand, though she shares a similar if not identical hairstyle highlighted by a comparably preposterous hairpiece.
Did we mention Battlestar Galactica's Kate Vernon is a guest star?
an unexpected guest-star: Battlestar Galactica showrunner Ron Moore.

there are these kind of Walter Mitty fantasy sequences that Hodges has that are framed in the construct of a 1970s sci-fi show that he and Wendy are big fans of, so he assumes the role of the commander and Wendy of course assumes the role of [an] alien yeoman crew member.

Well, the furry ep was one big stereotype, so...

Though a Trek Orgy is something never seen on TV... mostly because the stereotype Trekkies don't get any anyway. :p

Yay pigeonholes!

^That was the first thing I thought as well. My guess, is they didn't want the hassle of meeting all of our (the Trekkies) demands. CBS knows how picky we are and probably didn't want to have to recreate a TOS bridge and costumes exactly just for this episode, as it would likely be very costly, especially since they recently sold all the stuff from IAMD and Trials and Tribble-ations

Are the set pieces in the show supposed to be 'official' or fan creations? If it were the latter they wouldn't have to go to much more trouble.

There was of course Kate Vernon(nuBSG's Ellen Tigh). I thought I saw Grace Park and Ron Moore. I think Brent Spiner would have been great in the role of the victim; the Anti-Data.

I don't think a reimagining of Star Trek would work well. Say what you will, idealism is the core of all the shows. Having to make triage type decisions would have been akin to making Klingons pacifists.:rommie: That being said I hope the movie coming out won't attempt a nuBSG.

nuBSG was great btw to like one is not to diss the other.

That was hysterical. Having Moore be the fan who stands up and yells "You suck!" was fucking brilliant. :guffaw:

They recreated scenes from two Star Trek episodes pretty wonderfully, as well. Astro Quest was even more like Star Trek than Galaxy Quest. :)

I thought it was pretty funny overall, particularly Hodges' daydreams. Though... *sighs* I still miss Grissom. Oh well...
