Crowd-source project: Create a character and help build a crew.

Name: Agregak “Greg” Taq
Rank: Crewman Grade E-3
Duty Title: Boatswain's Technician
Roster number: 41
Character created by: Bry_Sinclair

Height: 6’4” / 195 cm
Weight: 150 lbs / 68 kg
Age: 22
Species/Race: Vobilite [See Notes Below]
Gender: Male
Appearance: He is tall and very lean though in good health (his species are stronger than they look). For those unfamiliar with Vobilite his appearance can be somewhat surprising, what with his mottled red skin, deep-set yellow eyes, heavy brow, and curved tusks protruding from his cheeks.
Languages: Vobilii, Federation Standard

Career history:
Time in service: 4 years
Time in grade: 1 year
-- Age 16: Finishes his schooling. Undertakes an apprenticeship with a construction company
-- Age 18: Enlisted into Starfleet
---- Eight weeks at Basic Training
---- Eight weeks at Technical Training
-- Crewman Grade E-1, assigned to Earth Orbital Office Epsilon as a Transporter Technician
-- Age 19: Crewman Grade E-2, assigned to Jupiter Station as a Systems Diagnostic Technician
-- Age 21: Crewman Grade E-3, assigned to Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards as a Construction Technician
---- Took the exam for Petty Officer Third Class but scored below average on the written test, the next test cycle he is eligible for is in six months.
-- Age 22: Crewman Grade E-3, assigned to Priority Transport “F34-TP-292” as Boatswain’s Technician
Decorations: None

Skills: Structural engineering, damage control -- distinction; transporters, system management -- proficient; shuttle piloting, first aid -- competent; hand phasers -- basic

Family status: He grew up on Vobilin, where his father was a custodian and his mother was an administrative assistant. They were both hard-working and productive members of society and raised him to be the same. Though both dubious about his wanting to enter Starfleet at the time, they have both seen how happy the decision made him and now offer their full support. Even long-distance, his mother keeps trying to set him up with a mate of his own.

Personality / Mannerisms: “Greg” as he is best known to everyone (except his parents) is always helpful and friendly, which many can find a little disconcerting given his appearance. Affable and easy-going, he likes to offer whatever help others may need (he’s the sort of chap who’ll help you move for pizza and beer, which he’ll bring with him). Very hard-working, the only time he gets riled up is by people who don’t pull their own weight. When working he has the bad habit of trying to whistle, despite not having the best physiology for such a skill (not to mention being tone deaf). With no personal reference to draw upon, the many wonders (and horrors) that life in space brings make him awestruck.

Hobbies / Interests: A very sociable fellow, he can always be found in the mess hall or rec room when not working or sleeping. That being said he is something of a card shark, it doesn’t take his shipmates long to learn not to plan poker against him—unless they want to lose a few credits. He is also a very interesting cook, putting together odd combinations of ingredients and creating something quite unique. He dabbles in photography when he has the opportunity, as well as being an avid rock-climber.

Background: Vobilin is a long-standing but small and often over-looked Federation Member. As a boy he was fascinated by news reports about the exploits and exploration of Starfleet, although none of his family had left their planet let alone applied to the Academy. Part of him always knew that he would be the first. Though he wasn't academically gifted, he was a hard-worker and put in more hours than his classmates, but was always a mediocre student and couldn’t meet the entry requirements for the Academy. He left school as soon as he could, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to get much more from it and, still being too young to enlist, took up an apprenticeship. Always good with his hands, he found his time in the construction industry to be very rewarding, as well as giving him a trade he could apply to his future in Starfleet.

His practical mind and approach stood him in good stead, whilst his studies noticeably improved when he was focused on what he really wanted for his career. Now he is in Starfleet he can’t see a life for himself outside the organisation, so even at his age he is a self-proclaimed “lifer”. However, his career thus far hasn’t been what he expected as he hasn’t left the Sol System, so he has applied for any shipboard posting he can, regardless of the ship or its mission, which led to him applying for the Priority Transport.

[Note: The Vobilite are a fanon species that first appeared in “Starfleet: Year One”, I believe. I thought I’d include one as the thought of their bright red skin and tusks make them visually very distinctive and different from lots of other, more common, species out there]

Am I 100% sure? No. But I do know that certain options happen at different levels based on number of postings you've made. I just went over 500 posts and became a "captain". No clue what that does for me.

Actually, just realized that what you say cannot be true, b/c I'm currently in Convo with another site member. I can only infer that the problem is something particular to STEPhon IT's preferences, e.g., no one she doesn't follow can participate in convos with her.

SPIN

I took the liberty to edit STEPhon IT's character, "Xavatto", and it seems more like a total re-write. I tried to keep the core essence of the character while toning down the parts I felt were too over-the-top. I also rounded out the background to make it a little more logical, pardon the pun, as to how and why he ended up in Star Fleet and on this mission.

I really wanted to run this by the original author before posting, but her account doesn't allow for private messaging. STEPhon: Please do let me know if there is anything you find unacceptable in the write up. I'm leaving your name on the by-line because at the core, I feel, this is still the character you created.

One last edit I made was to change the names, if for no other reason than I have no clue how to pronounce "Xavatto". :vulcan:

Name: Sovan
Rank: Petty Officer First Class
Duty Title: Corpsman / Combat Medic
Roster number: 11
Based on character created by: STEPhon IT

Height: 6' 6-1/2" / 199 cm
Weight: 245 lbs / 111 kg
Age: 62
Species/Race: Vulcan
Gender: Male
Appearance: Muscular build, dark brown complexion, reddish-brown hair, brown eyes with a bluish tinge in the whites.
Languages: Vulcan (native), English, Andorian, and Orion (fluent), tourist-level to conversational in more than dozen other languages.

Career history:
Time in service: 27 years
Time in grade: 9 years
-- Attended Vulcan Science Academy, earned certification in xeno-medical treatment, did not advance to doctorial education
-- Worked as an orderly and later as a nurse-assistant in several emergency rooms / trauma centers for ten years; was a first responder after a transport shuttle crashed into a primary school killing thirty children and leaving over a hundred wounded, many maimed for life; retired from his job immediately after that incident (if he was human, he would have been diagnosed with PTSD and as being "emotionally exhausted")
-- Retreated to an isolated sanctuary for over a year but failed to reach spiritual / emotional cleansing (the Kolinahr rituals)
-- Joined an unorthodox society, considered to be an illegal cult by the Vulcan government, whose members embrace a philosophy that blends logic and emotion
-- Enlisted in Star Fleet at age 35, bypassed basic Corpsman training and went straight to Combat Medical training
--- Several assignments, mostly as a combat medical attached to Star Fleet Marine combat units
--- Has seen ground combat six times, including the Defense of Jacob's Planet, and joined over twenty ship-boarding actions in his career
--- Also served on the medical ship USS Mercy and participated in rescue operations during the ion storm disaster on Nelson's Planet and was awarded two Sentinel of Life medals for separate events
--- Last assignment was a three year tour at Star Fleet Veterans Hospital on Mars
--- Had orders for yet another assignment onboard a Marine battalion combat transport ship, but was able to have those orders changed at the last minute to the Priority Transport "F34-TP-292"
Awards and Decorations: Two Silver Star medals, one of which was a nomination for and downgraded from the Star Fleet Cross, three Bronze Star with Valor medals, three Purple Heart medals, numerous decorations for life saving, several awards for meritorious service

Skills: Shuttle pilot -- standard visual flight rules rating, infantry combat arms -- qualified, Marine martial arts -- brown belt (instructor qualified), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) -- Level 4 (of 5 levels)

Family status: Sovan was born in space on a trading outpost near the planet Vulcan, and has one older brother, Subin, who graduated from the Vulcan Center for Linguistic Studies, and two much-younger siblings. Their father was a merchant and pushed his sons hard to go into academia, so when Sovan dropped out of medical school without becoming a doctor, he and his father had a falling out. They resolved their differences just before he joined Star Fleet, and his father died soon after. His relationship with Subin, on the other hand, began to break down when he joined the cult, and completely collapsed when their father died. One of the side-effects of his unorthodox ways is he has learned to control his pon farr urges and so has yet to take a wife or father children.

Personality / mannerisms: Sovan is an open-minded person who loves company, and values the human capability to accept diversity. He has a great sense of humor and often tells jokes with a very dry wit. While he usually maintains an outward appearance of utter calm, he is known to display his emotions especially when he finds joy and happiness. Absolutely refuses to swap war-stories about his combat actions or his work in the emergency room. He has been driven to anger on occasion, the result of which is always quite exuberant.

Hobbies / interests: He's a bit of a renaissance man and has been exploring art, music, and entertainment from Earth's 20th/21st century. He is fascinated with jazz and blues, and recently expanded his interest to R&B and soul music. Continues to study religion and philosophy from a wide variety of cultures in an attempt to find his own personal inner peace.

Background: As noted above, Sovan has lost contact with most of his immediate family, although his mother does keep him informed of their whereabouts and significant family events. When he made peace with his father, he discovered he has an aunt, his father's half-sister, who also was ostracized (she for marrying a human). He has since built a strong relationship with his cousin, T'Kwaal, and recently sponsored her application to Star Fleet Medical Academy.

Sovan is naturally gifted in learning languages, which was another cause for contention with his brother. Subin criticized him for not utilizing his talents and instead going into medicine. Subin is likewise a gifted linguist and, serving in Vulcan Security, has done work for Star Fleet Intelligence. Twice, the brothers crossed paths on a professional level, and both times the meetings were strained.

Labeled a cultist on his home world, Sovan was denied re-admission to the Vulcan Science Academy to complete his doctorate, and was unable to find employment in any hospital or trauma center. With few options left, he applied to Star Fleet and was turned down for Academy as an Officer Candidate (no doubt due to pressure from the Vulcan government), but he was accepted as an enlisted corpsman.

At first glance, it would appear that his career progression was slow, but the truth of the matter is he declined promotion several times, once to PO3, three times to PO2, and twice to PO1, as he moved up the ranks at a pace he felt comfortable with. He turned down promotion to Chief Petty Officer once, telling his superiors that he will accept the promotion only if it comes with a guaranteed six-year assignment as an instructor at Star Fleet Medical Academy.

His aunt told him of a dark secret in their family's ancestry, something he has not shared with anyone. He was worried that the mandatory DNA screening, which all Vulcans were subjected to after the discovery that they and Romulans are cousins, would reveal this secret. Either the tests didn't prove it true, or Star Fleet missed its significance.

I made a couple minor edits and changed the names. I think it's a little silly that "all Vulcan names begin with an S", but that's what readers have come to expect.

I was just running a random name generator, and it kicked out a name that would be great for the commanding officer (or the exec): Conrad Parker. If anyone wants to take that and run with it, have fun. I'm not saying you "must" use that name ... just that it jumped out at me as being a cool name.

I'm working up the shuttle maintenance specialist now: human female. I have an idea in mind for the electrician: male, new-species alien of my creation. I want to write the story how his people were discovered before I introduce the character to the list.

Name: Faith Woodbridge
Rank: Petty Officer Second Class
Duty Title: Shuttlecraft Flight Engineer
Roster number: 32
Character created by: Sgt_G

Height: 5' 5-3/4" / 167 cm
Weight: 144 Lbs. / 65 kg
Age: 30
Species/Race: Human -- Canadian / European-decent
Gender: Female
Appearance: Caucasian, physically fit but needs to lose a few pounds, sandy-blonde bob-cut hair, hazel eyes
Languages: English

Career history:
Time in service: 11
Time in grade: 5
-- Enlisted in Star Fleet at age 19, completed Boatswain's Mate school
-- Assigned to the USS Yorktown, where she met and married her husband
-- Year 3: promoted to PO3, assigned to Star Base Three
-- Year 4: cross-trained to Shuttlecraft Maintenance Specialist
-- Year 6: promoted to PO2
-- Year 8: upgraded to Shuttlecraft Flight Engineer
Decorations: Two Achievement Medals for meritorious service, submitted for a Commendation Medal

Skills: Shuttle Pilot -- standard visual flight rules rating, hand phaser – qualified, Boatswain's duties – maintained certification

Family status: Born the fourth of six children into a typical family in Alberta, Canada, she is married with three children of her own, ages 8 (girl), 5 (girl), and 2 (boy). Her husband, Richard Fuller, is also a PO2 (Machinist's Mate) and was assigned to the USS Constellation for the past two years but just transferred to Star Base Three. This allowed Faith to take the position on the Priority Transport while he takes care of the children. She kept her maiden name because "Faith Fuller" sounded funny.

Personality / Mannerisms: Mild-mannered but not meek; sociable but not outgoing. Will go into "Mom Mode" when children are threatened or when they're misbehaving. "Children", in her mind, includes her younger crewmates, whether they like it or not.

Hobbies / Interests: Spends most of her free time either in the gym trying to trim back down to her pre-baby weight or studying for promotion exams to Petty Officer First Class. She's an excellent cook.

Background: Petty Officer Woodbridge has had a steady, albeit uneventful career, having spent the past eight years on Star Base Three. Twice she had assignment orders canceled due to maternity. She is competent at her job, tending to work at a methodical pace and never with a sense of urgency. She volunteered a lot of time to various advisory boards and planning committees, often leaving the work center to go to such meetings, which earned her a poor reputation with her co-workers.

The new officer in charge of assignments at Star Fleet Manpower Center takes a dim view of "homesteaders" and thus directed that people like Woodbridge had to be moved. The Master Chief in charge of detailing her career field gave her the option of three different assignments, and mistakenly said that this mission, because of the uncharted space it goes through, would earn hazardous duty pay and the ship-duty time-credit would count double. Upon reporting to the ship, she found they had retracted those benefits. Between that and being separated from her family, she is unhappy with the assignment.

STEPhon: I can't PM you as your account is locked down. Did you see the edited version I drafted in post #27 above? If so, are you okay with the changes?

If you want to take this to a PM, you'll need to "follow" me, at least for the duration of the PM conversation. Thanks!!!!

It's been quiet here. Too quiet. This topic does remain open for submissions.

I hope that my re-writing of STEPhon's character hasn't chased other would-be authors off. I really did not want to do that, but I felt her first draft was too far over the top to use as-is. I was hoping she would engage in discussion how to revise it, but she blocks PM conversation requests and hasn't replied to the thread. {sigh} If anyone feels I was in the wrong in the way I handled that, please PM me with your concerns.

I just want ordinary albeit talented characters, much like most anyone presented as regular cast on any Trek series to date, with some sort of interesting back-story. If they have something "special" about them, great, as long as it's fairly reasonable and not comic-bookish. If the person is "super human", why the heck would they be in Star Fleet let alone on this mission?

I'm not looking for a crew full of rejects, like Bry did so well in his Orion stories, although I wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple crewmen like that. Neither am I looking for a crew full of super troops, but in my mind the commander should be a top-tier officer (top 10% but not top 1% like Kirk) using this mission as a stepping stone to bigger and better assignments.

There is one more rule I feel I should impose: I don't want characters that have ties to official Trek characters. Ergo, I don't want submissions for Nyota Uhura's baby sister or Hoshi Sato's grandson, or even an engineer who trained under Scotty on the Enterprise. That just opens too many cans of worms.

Once I have a full crew roster, my idea for Phase Two of this project is to write short stories set on this ship. The mission calls for eight to twelve round-trips over six months, 16-24 flights each lasting seven to ten days. Each such flight is long enough to have a good story written. However, I don't plan to write all the stories myself, but rather open it up to any author here on Trek-BBS to write. Of course, we need 39 more characters before we can go to Phase Two.

Name: Alicia Lemas (Nickname: Leesi)
Rank: Lieutenant
Duty Title: Engineer
Roster number: 17
Character created by: TheLoneRedshirt

Height: 5' 2" / 157.48 cm
Weight: 128 lb. / 58 kilos
Age: 31
Species/Race: Human
Gender: Female

Appearance: A native of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, Earth, Lt. Lemas has brown skin, black, straight hair cut in a short, practical style, and vivid green eyes which are quite expressive. She has a somewhat round face and a ready smile. Shorter than average for a Human female, Lemas is in good physical shape with a medium build but not athletic in appearance. More often than not, she will be found wearing engineering coveralls with tools stored in myriad pockets.

Languages: Federation Standard, Spanish

Career history:
Time in service: 9 years
Time in grade: 4 years
-- Previous assignments:
Starbase K-4: Environmental Controls Assistant (Ensign)
USS Mendenhall, Assistant Engineer (Lt. j.g.)
USS Ranger, Assistant Engineer (Lt.)

Decorations:
Starfleet Order of Merit with two stars
Cascadia Achievement Award (for engineers who exemplify excellence and innovation)

Skills: Specializes in warp dynamics, power systems distribution, worked with her father as a young girl maintaining and repairing automated coffee harvesters. Lemas is a "hands-on" engineer not afraid of getting her hands dirty.

Family status: Single, one older brother who also serves in Starfleet (Lt. Marco Lemas, Operations Officer, USS Akagi). Parents: Javier and Sylvia Lemas of Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Javier services coffee harvesters, Sylvia is an attorney.

Personality / Mannerisms: Lt. Lemas is friendly, though somewhat quiet until you get to know her. She leads by example and is willing to teach subordinates "Her Way" of doing things in engineering. Generally cordial with colleagues and subordinates, she can become irate if a team member makes careless mistakes or fails to ask questions if they don't know how to do something. She will sometimes mutter to herself in Spanish when concentrating on a task. Prefers to spend duty hours in engineering; she doesn't particularly care for bridge duty. Somewhat sensitive regarding her short stature. While generally kind, she cannot tolerate slackers or crew members who take short-cuts with their work. One of her pet sayings that all of her section can quote is: "If we do it wrong, the ship blows up."

Hobbies / Interests: Plays the guitar quite well and enjoys singing. She loves to tinker with old, mechanical items, especially toys. On shore leaves she will scour bazaars, second hand shops, and even recycling stations to find items she can fix and repair. When she restores a toy, she will give it to a child as she has opportunity.

Background: Alicia Lemas enjoyed a relatively quiet and stable childhood in the mountains of Guatemala on Earth. Coffee beans are still in high demand in the 23rd century, so she helped her father and extended family maintain the automated processors. Ironically, she does not like coffee, preferring tea or cocoa. She was a good but not stellar student in school but both she and her older brother had dreams of leaving Earth to see the Galaxy. Starfleet seemed to be the answer to their wanderlust. Alicia actually struggled with the rigorous engineering classes at the Academy but was wise enough to seek out a tutor. The rigors of intense physical training were also stessful but she found a heretofore undiscovered resolve to do what she had to do, to not only pass, but improve and excel. She graduated in the top third of her class.

Lemas struggled with her first assignment on Starbase K-4. She spent long, tedious hours monitoring the environmental systems under the critical supervision of a Telarite lieutenant who seemingly made it his goal to make Ensign Lemas' life miserable. She began to wonder if she had made a mistake in joining Starfleet. But again, the gritty resolve she discovered while a cadet saw her through. To her surprise, her supervisor gave her superior performance reviews and recommended her for promotion after her requisite time in rank.

Following two solid stints as an assistant engineer on starships, she now serves as chief engineer for the first time. At times, she has doubts about her abilities to lead but she is growing in her capacity to command, though at this time she has no aspirations to leave an engineering billet to pursue the command track.

Currently, she is not in a romantic relationship. She was in a brief relationship with the older cadet who tutored her during her Academy days. The relationship did not end well and she's been "gun-shy" ever since.

Name: Conrad Parker

Height: 5'10" / 178 cm
Weight: 188 Lbs. / 85 kg
Age: 29
Species/Race: Human -- Caucasian
Gender: Male
Appearance: Athletic build, rugged good looks, sandy-blond hair and blue-green eyes
Languages: English (native), Spanish (fluent)

Career history:
Time in service: 7 years
Time in grade: 3 years
-- Age 17: Graduated from high school with high honors, enrolled in Texas A&M University
-- Age 19: College gap-year, drafted onto Dallas Cowboys football team, punt-kicker, played one season
-- Age 20: Transferred to Star Fleet Academy, Patuxent River Air Station campus
-- Age 22: Graduated from Star Fleet Academy just below the top five-percent Commandant's List
-- Age 22: Ensign, Junior Weapons Officer, Q-Ship SS Automedon (heavily armed decoy freighter)
-- Age 24: LT-jg, Team Leader, Security Forces, Survey Cruiser USS Henry Hudson
-- Age 26: LT, Staff Officer, Special Projects, Star Base Four
-- Age 28: Personal Assistant to Vice Admiral Samuel Ugyuk, Star Base Four
-- Age 29: Assigned to Priority Transport "F34-TP-292" as Executive Officer (aka First Officer)
Decorations: Two medals for combat action, three for meritorious service, and one for outstanding achievement. Also receive two official reprimands; in both cases he says he'd "do it the same way again".

Skills: Shuttle pilot -- instrument rated; hand phaser / phaser rifle -- expert; certified qualified: communications, sensors, transporter, ship's weapons; basic certification: ship's helm, navigation, damage control

Family status: Born and raised in Waco, Texas, he was the second son / third child of Leland and Susan. Leland Parker III, like his father and grandfather, was a state senator and later governor, and Conrad's brother Leland IV appears to be on the same political path. Susan Conrad-Parker's father, William "Little Bull" Conrad, is the fifth-generation owner of the Conrad Oil. Conrad's sister Sarah, the oldest sibling, married very well; her husband is moving up in Federation government circles. The fourth child, Rebecca Lynn, is developing a stellar academic career and has even been nominated for a Noble Prize in social science. Conrad has had a long string of girlfriends, leaving a trail of broken hearts since he was fourteen years old, including a several famous singers, models, and movie actresses. Contrary to tabloid rumors, he has no offspring.

Personality / mannerisms: Sociable, articulate, self-confident, easy going, and polite. His detractors would call him invasively gregarious, arrogant, conceited, undisciplined, and patronizing. Some consider him to be reckless, but in truth he is very good at risk assessment. He values risk/reward, having learned (the hard way) to avoid stupid risks. If there is any danger in a situation, he would rather accept those risks himself instead of subjecting others to it. Some view this as being a glory hound. He has a keen sense of right and wrong. If he sees an injustice being done, he feels compelled to do or at least say something about it. This earned him two of his medals, and both of his reprimands. It also got him fired from being the Admiral's assistant and thus sent on this current assignment.

Hobbies / interests: Conrad is an adrenalin junky and will try pretty much any sport, the more the extreme the better. He started competition freestyle skateboarding at eight years old, mountain biking at ten, and snowboarding and water skiing at twelve, winning over sixty trophies throughout his teen years. He competed in mixed martial arts (MMA) fighting briefly while in college and still spars occasionally. For relaxation, he watches science, nature, and history documentaries.

Background: For all his bravado and accomplishments, Parker always felt second-best. His siblings all seemed perfect, never failed at anything nor made a bad decision, and they figured out early in life where they belonged. He didn't have his brother's political wit, nor his cousin's business sense (hence why his uncle and cousin will inherit Conrad Oil). Even as co-captain of his high school football team, he play halfback and not quarterback (as Leland did five years prior), and never truly felt like the team's leader. With no life-goal, he majored in "general studies" at Texas A-&-M, resigned to the fact that he would probably end up working for his grandfather, or perhaps become a high school teacher.

Parker was on the college championship football team and caught the eye of the Cowboys staff, so he dropped out of college to play in the NFL as a punt-kicker. He complained more than once about the lack of protection the linemen gave the kickers, and each time the coaches and management assured him they would fix the problem. He was knocked out during a post-season game, and he spoke openly to the media about his unanswered concerns, which resulted in a very public dismissal from the team.

While still with the NFL, he participated in a charity event that pitted professional athletes, first-responders (fire/police), and military in obstacle course challenges. As he watched the military teams, for the first time in his life Conrad felt he witnessed what true teamwork and comradery looked like. It was an easy decision to join Star Fleet after leaving the NFL. It was a decision he never regretted, no matter how hard it got for him. It took him a long time to trust the abilities of others, to feel like the team really does have his back. It's an issue he still struggles with.

I've been thinking about the junior engineers, and I'd kind of like to see them both as O-1 Ensign, one as prior enlisted with 8-10 years of service before going mustang, and the other a kid straight out of academy / engineer school. Also, I'd like to see one (or a couple/few) of the enlist be reservists pulling extended active-duty time, and they have really cool civilian jobs. Just suggestions, not requirements.

I have zero ideas for the commanding officer, other than he/she is an above average officer with a good chance at early promotion (first-look is at 10 years in service, six months away).

I've been thinking about my last post, and I have an idea that the four Gunner's Mates (character 37-40) are all reservists from the same unit, and all work together in their civilian job as part of the Honor Guard detail for the King of England (or Queen). Yes, England will still have a nobility class if in title only. Anyone from the U.K. here? Care to toss out four distinctly British names? They don't all have to be white males, given London's large South Asian and African-decent population.

As to the commanding officer, I'm thinking Human but not from Earth, born and raise on another planet (Alpha Centauri, perhaps?) and thus has a different perspective from most other humans.

Name: Cordova, Javier
Rank: CPO
Duty Title: Loadmaster
Roster number: 36
Character created by: Mistral

Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 320 lbs.
Age: 55
Species/Race: Human
Gender: Male

Appearance: A native of the Mars Colony, Javier grew up in the capital, Bradbury Dome. Although given a hereditary that lends a brown tone to his skin, the artificial lighting of the Bradbury Dome bleached his color to a tan hue. Large for his size, his barrel chest has proven handy when stopping fights in every bar from Lincoln Station to Rigel and beyond. His salt and pepper hair is thick and kept short, although he sports a Van Dyke beard and a truly villainous looking mustachio, of which he is inordinately proud. He tends to wear issue coveralls with little regard for the rank symbols he is entitled to beyond the merest required markings. Off duty he wears traditional vaquero garb, right down to the Stetson hat.
Languages: Federation Standard, Spanish(Mars Variant), bits of Vulcan, Andorian(High and Low),Orion Trade dialect, a smattering of Tellarite (River sect) and a profound ability at Klingon swears and insults.

Career history: 3 years in Starfleet Logistics in San Francisco, 8 years as cargomaster of the USS Delphi transport, 3 years as Loadmaster at Utopia Plenitia and 2 years as Loadmaster on the USS Tarawa. He was recently re-assigned to the USS Captain Cook.(there, you have a name)
Time in service: 16 years
Time in grade: 3 years
-- Previous assignments: See above
Decorations: He really doesn't like to talk about it. Unless there is a pretty senorita around, and even then, only in private. Otherwise, he really doesn't like to talk about it.

Skills: He can handle any supply issue, pack a cruiser for a 5 year mission, stock a newly minted starship, or make sure a colony has everything it needs. Give him 30 cubic meters of cargo and a 20 cubic space to store it in and he will make it happen. He's also really good at finding those things Starfleet has decided you just don't need-even though you do.

Family status: The father of 4, his wife, Esmeralda, lives on Mars Colony with Jose, Ysenia, Mario, and Makayla. His parents died by the hand of Kodos the Executioner.
Parents: deceased. He doesn't like to talk about it.
Personality / Mannerisms: He is an "Old Man" to his cargo crew, a Don Juan if there is a pretty lady about and fiercely loyal to his "Ezzie" no matter how pretty they are. He likes to fish, and has even gone after super whites on Pacifica with only a facemask and a knife. In his spare time, he carves starships and wet navy ships out of exotic woods. He can play a pretty mean trumpet. He looks and acts like a grizzled old hand while on duty but has a deep heart.

Hobbies: See above-also, he has a fanatic interest in pre WWIII American films and peppers his speech with obscure quotes from the same. God help the newly assigned ensign who gets invited to his Saturday night "movie night". Popcorn included.

As is traditional from the military founding of the colonies, Javier always refers to himself when being introduced to a new person as Cordova, Javier. He knows his way around an enchilada, but his Mars Variant Spanish sometimes confuses native born Spanish speakers. He is a gourmet cook, often offering 1800 calorie "snacks" to visitors. His parents execution at the hands of Kodos due to a food shortage on Tarsus 4 affected him deeply, and he is never without a food supply others might call hoarding.

@Mistral, Thanks! Pretty good, but I think it needs a couple minor tweaks.

The roster number is 36. You list him as a CPO. The script called for a PO2, but I can bump that up to PO1. If he's a Chief, he doesn't seem to have the personality to be the Chief of the Boat. Let me think on that. If he's the CPO, then I need to drop the Chief Boatswain down to PO1. Also, if he's a CPO, I'd like to increase his time-in-service by four or five years. Making CPO at 13 years is a bit faster than average. Not impossible, of course.

I would think 320 pounds is pushing the weight max. I don't mind him being rather large, but please look up a BMI chart and re-evaluate his height/weight. Thanks. And also please do list metric height/weight for our non-American friends. (Six foot one --- what is it with all the tall crewmen??)

At 55 years old and 16 years in service, he would have enlisted at age 39. Even adding five or so years service (per above) put him at about 34 years old. I'm wondering what he did before Starfleet and what made him enlist. Perhaps he enlisted in his early 20's and had a break in service, went to the Reserves or got completely out for a while, and came back in. If that's the case, what did he do during his break? Either way, my guess is he worked for Smith & Jones Shipping on their bulk freighters.

Overall, I like the write-up. Thanks again.

Saw this quote from "Redemption II" on Facebook: Christopher Hobson: Frankly, sir, I don't believe in your ability to command this ship. You're a fellow officer and I respect that, but no one would suggest that a Klingon would make a good ship's counsellor or that a Berellian could be an engineer. They're just not suited for those positions. By the same token, I don't think an android is a good choice to be captain.

Kick Hobson in the butt and have both. ;)
