Crowd-source project: Create a character and help build a crew.

Oh, there are tons of story plots. Some may be a bit cliche, but just typing off the top of my head:

They find a lost colony from 50-75 years back.
They find a new alien world that may or may not be friendly.
They are attacked by pirates. They are chased by and hide from pirates. They come to the rescue of another ship being attacked by pirates. Did I mention this is like the Wild West and there are pirates out here?
They stop at a colony world and find something sinister going on.
They stumble upon a secret military base they shouldn't know about.
They take a passenger who tries to hijack the ship.
They find a stowaway passenger, a teen-aged kid running away from home (or tying to be with his girlfriend).
They're diverted to deal with a medical emergency, but they have time-sensitive cargo on-board.

The list goes on and on.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ideas for the name of the ship:
Wells Fargo
Conestoga
Vardo (Romani (Gypsy) wagon)
Araba (a type of Turkish wagon)
Starjammer (a spin on the Windjammer sailing cargo ships)
Okay people, after some PM negotiations between me and the Sarge, this is the revised character sheet for the Lt. Rodan character:
Name: Rhodia'haan ansi (known as Rodan)
Rank: Lieutenant
Duty Title: Commanding Officer
Roster number: #1
Character created by: Admiral2.
Height: 5'11"/180.3cm
Weight: 135lbs/61+kg
Age: 29
Species/Race: Andorian
Gender: Female
Appearance: Pretty features, athletic build, hair cut shorter than normal for an Andorian, almost a crew cut.
Languages: Andorian (native), Federation Standard/English (fluent)
Career history:
Time in service: 9 1/2 years
Time in grade: 5 1/2 years
-- Previous assignments: Staff officer at SFHQ, two separate tours on Security Skiffs, staff officer on IG's Standards and Training Evaluation Team.
Decorations: Service Star (two repeats), Master Marksman award, Distinguished Service Citation
Skills:
Skills: Primary Specialty: Weapons / Tactical, Secondary Specialty: Unit Organization. Shuttle pilot/ combat rated; hand phaser / phaser rifle -- marksman; basic certification in practical Warp-drive theory.
Family status: Married, three children, a daughter and twin sons, family living on a colony world near Star Base Two. Her husband, Ryv Th'izal, was an enlisted member of Star Fleet but separated from service to form his own computer security company.
Personality / Mannerisms: Lt. Rodan thinks it's her duty to help bring order to a chaotic galaxy. She's a meticulous and exacting commander. Feels there's no such thing as a lowly job. She commands a cargo ship, so it will be the most efficient cargo ship in the fleet if it's the last thing she does. Thoughtful and deliberate in her actions.
Hobbies / Interests: Has an affinity for Andorian "jazz" music. Frequents a nightclub that features Andorian bands whenever she's at home. Practices a form of Zen Buddhist meditations. Like her parents, she is a gifted artist but rarely applies those skills.
Background: Her parents are both artists and distrustful of the military. Rodan joined Starfleet ROTC at her homeworld's military academy during a rebellious phase, intending to get out after serving her required time, but ended up going career instead. Has a daughter and twin sons. Met her husband, Ryv Th'izal, upon being transferred to USS Yi-Chun. She has had outstanding performance reports, but her assignment history masks her potential. With her time at the Inspector General winding down, she started to put out feelers for a slot a bridge-watch position on a Frigate or Destroyer and received no offers back, leaving her at the mercy of Manpower's whims. While on an inspection of Star Base Four, she was interviewed by Vice Admiral Ugyuk who suggest that if she put a commander position on the top of her record, it would help her stand out to both the assignments office and the promotion selection board. Faced with the prospect of another staff-officer assignment, she begrudgingly accepted.
What say you, Little Tall?
Re: possible ship's names - I like Starjammer. Similar names would be Wind Dancer, Stellar Wind, Photon Stream, Dream Catcher
A nice Q character who wants to be Human a la Amanda Rogers' parents might be interesting. Would also provide a vehicle for story ideas, as he/she is constantly being urged to return to the Continuum by another Q.
Yeah, if this was TNG. But it's TOS and we haven't met the Q yet.
Even so, I can see someone with hidden abilities, maybe some they don't even realize they have.
I've been thinking about my last post, and I have an idea that the four Gunner's Mates (character 37-40) are all reservists from the same unit, and all work together in their civilian job as part of the Honor Guard detail for the King of England (or Queen). Yes, England will still have a nobility class if in title only. Anyone from the U.K. here? Care to toss out four distinctly British names? They don't all have to be white males, given London's large South Asian and African-decent population.
Haven't been able to come up with any decent ideas so far, but given the request for a British perspective I thought I'd weigh in on the above question.
I like the idea of the four GMs (though I prefer Armory Technician (AT) for my personal fanon given ENT) being a group both on and off-ship, however the description 'civilian job as part of the Honor Guard detail for the King of England' doesn't really work as much as the "Sovereign's Escort" (the official term for the Honor Guard) are British Army Household Cavalry and actual bodyguard duties are handled by the Royalty Protection branch of the (London) Metropolitan Police Service, neither of which are true civilians given that RP officers are universally Authorised Firearms Officers (between regular patrolman and SWAT in US terms).
That said, given that you don't have dedicated security personnel on board, the idea of having GM's that have the experience to 'double-dip' makes a lot of sense.
In line with the above, I thought I'd volunteer Kiran Bohra, Chiranjeev "Jeeves" Yonjan, Roshan Sainju and Rajaram "Raja" Pathak (GM1), enlisted into 2nd Batt, Royal Gurka Rifles, (part of 16 Air Assault Brigade), then transfered over to the Household Regiment (possibly at the request of the Royal Family, junior members (most recently Prince Harry) have worked with the RGR before)), then were tapped for the Starfleet Reserves and after a couple of tours (possibly with Ground Forces) they re-upped/cross-rated as Gunners Mates and were assigned to F34-TP-292.
This is a character I started working on for a story (needs more work). Not sure if he would fit into the ranks as desired.
Name: Saurison th’Ratpax (Ratpax)
Rank: Chief
Duty Title: Transporter Operator / Security
Roster number:
Character created by: Robert Finch
Height: 6’1” / 185 cm
Weight: 234lb / 106kg
Age: 53 (approx.)
Species/Race: (Pax) Andorian
Gender: Male
Appearance: Large Andorian with flat antennas, wears a muscle restraint suit.
Languages: English = Federation Standard, Andorian
Career history:
Time in service: 30+
Time in grade:
-- Previous assignments: Starbase X, Transporter engineering.
Decorations:
Skills: Able to teleport. Skilled transporter operation and maintenance. Also good at hand-to-hand combat.
Family status: Single, considered a loner for an Andorian.
Personality / Mannerisms:
Hobbies / Interests: Magic and painting illusions.
Background:
Saurison Ratpax is Pax-Andorian, a native from the moon Pax in the Andorian system. The Pax moon is large and is a 4G environment. Ratpax is abnormally strong for a Pax-Andorian being four times as strong as the average Pax-Andorian. As a result he wears a muscle restraint suit, which is often confused with a power accelerator suit, to make it easier for him to move about in low G environments. Ratpax was made fun of as a child for his antenna deformity. His antenna lay flat in a semi-circular fashion about his head, rather than pointing upwards. Ratpax became somewhat of a bully as a child due to his unusual strength, but grew out of it as he got older.
Saurison th’Ratpax prefers to be called by the last part of his name ‘Ratpax’.
Ratpax is one of a rare group of individuals capable of teleportation. As a teleporter he was encouraged to study transporter engineering in Star-Fleet as a specialty.
Ratpax moved up through Star-Fleet ranks to become a Chief transporter engineer. He is also a Star-Fleet security officer.
