Re: Cellphone Whackjobs

No phones. But for movies I really want to enjoy fully, there are a couple of theaters that have "adult screenings" in what they call Director's Lounges. 21 and older only, larger seats, more aisle room and ushers at the ready to make sure that kind of nonsense doesn't happen.

And headphone jacks of every seat so I can plug in my BOSE and just drift away...

Re: Cellphone Whackjobs

in the UK the phone company ORANGE do adverts where cellphone executives get a hollywood star (often minor, or ageing actor) to take part & the execs listen to a movie pitch but then change it around so that cellphones are the heart of the story.

the advert that preceded star trek was with Emilio Estevez doing a reimagining of Saving Private Ryan only this time they erased Ryan's cellnumber and where trying to get it back.

Emilio runs away from the movie Premiere- because the movie is so bad.

the adverts end with Dont let phones ruin a movie. Turn it off.

go on try youtube and search for 'orange adverts' to see more - they are usually quite good.

I had my phone out for a bit... I needed to check the time as I was getting picked up at a certain time and with my phone on silent I wouldn't hear (nor answer-not during that) their calls.

I think I finally put my phone away once the film started, the preview was running late so I was making sure I had enough time left, and after the credits started to roll I checked the time again.

If someone complained at me checking the time - I would get bitchy.

Re: Cellphone Whackjobs

I've seen it twice, and BOTH times some jack@ss in the row behind me had their cell phone ring and BOTH times the person answered it and proceeded to talk. If I'd had a phaser....

Unfortunately there was crying baby next to me. I just don't get WHY people bring babies to the theater and expect them to be quiet. I didn't complain but the lady next to did. She asked the lady to please take the kid outside...and the mom did but that was after about an hour of the baby crying n and off.

About 20 or so last Friday late afternoon. When the movie ended, everyone just quietly got up and left the theater. And during the show, just quiet which is fine by me.

Re: Cellphone Whackjobs

I've seen the movie twice now, one cell phone incident per viewing. The first time a womans phone rang and she answered it and said she couldn't really talk right now, I felt like smacking her. The second time I just heard ringing, I don't think they answered.

They need to install jamming devices in theatres...or guns. One or the other..

Rob
My theatre had a push-message system. While not every phone has that enabled, pushing one message (with "please turn off your phone") each 3 seconds for about a 30 seconds or so did result in those people turning their phones off. :D

What is that? Do you mean they send a message to each phone? Thats pretty cool..

I don't know if they did it by WAP, bluetooth or some other method, since my phone wasn't on. But it was definitely effective. One of them reacted out laughingly when the first message came in "hey guys, I just got a message to turn my phone off lol".. but by the time the 9th or 10th message was sent out they all had their phones off. :D

Just seen it and for a tuesday showing (1st of the day) when many people are at work/school & college or on hoildays since its the summer I was surprised to see so many people at the movie. I would say anywhere between 30-35% and for a weekday 1:45pm showing around here thats impressive.

Most people seem to like, I heard no complaints and saw a few smiles on the way out (no one in costume btw). There seem to be a few Trek fans in the crowd, I had one near me was a little annoying he was alone and made one too many comments to himself for some reason over the course of the movie like stating the characters name when they were sen for 1st time on screen like he was trying to remind himself who they were  but all his comments were positive ones.

People laughed in the right places and the green dide went down really well as did McCoy & Scotty's humors. I can tell you everyone loved the USS kelvin scene there was no real noise i nthe sense of appulse but everyone seem so focused on the screen and in awe of it.

ps - Sulu scene when he stalled the ship went down a treat

Voyager...huh?

After Voyager..huh???

Funny.

I was in my second screening of the movie when some dudes were talking about past Star Trek shows..DS9..TNG ect. Then they had the obvious brain fart that most people in world have as well.

"What was the show that came after Voyager?"

They couldn't remember. In fact, I am willing to bet a zilliion dollars, that outside a few trekkies or trekkers no on that crowd would know ENTERPRISE if it hit him them in the nose...that is how forgetable that show is becoming, sorry Enterprise fans...just keeping it real.

Nemesis...Enterprise...Insurrection. The three black-holes of TREK. At least at the mention of TTF you get "Oh, the one with God in it" as a reply...

TREK 11 has saved TREK. Now...JUST don't ruin it with another vannila TV show with boring characters who walk around recounting BARD quotes...

Re: Voyager...huh?

Amen. It really began with the fan split of VOY vs. DS9 though. Both series seemed to piss off different groups of fans, and by the end of VOY mos casual viewers were just fed up with the same old, same old.

I still think the TNG movies and ENT were a huge missed opportunity. If they had handed those projects over to people who were willing to put story and character ahead of protecting the precious status quo. Unfortunately, the franchise had to hit rock bottom before Paramount got the message.

But yes, let's hope those days are behind us.

Yeah, I kinda sorta totally agree with this as well.

Personally, I was a Voyager follower and then went back and watched DS9 on DVD.

Re: Voyager...huh?

I though TFF was the one with "Row, row, row, row, row, row your boat" and Acme rocket boots.

And a broken down Enterprise.
And lousy SFX.
And Spock's previously unheard of half brother.
And the fan dance.
And obviously re-dressed TNG sets.

I was "VERY" busy when Voyager came around (active military). So I was in parts of the world where seeing Voyager was, well, impossible. Its not that I didn't like it, there are some episodes I think are great. Just some of it doesn't appeal to me...

My favorite episode is the BLINK OF AN EYE episode...classic TOS stuff there, and well done by Voyager and her crew...
