Also, the whole conceit for even having a secret identity has sort of lost its significance in the information age - especially amongst one's closest friends and family.

Until the Joker strips you naked, tortures you, and then surrounds you with huge portraits of your bleeding out daughter he just crippled.
Ironically, it's your daughter who has the secret identity to protect you.
Did the Joker even know that Barbara was Batgirl?
But secret knowledge wasn't necessary in the case of "The Killing Joke." He was trying to drive Jim Gordon nuts, and Batgirl or not, it was never a secret that Jim Gordon had a daughter.Joker found Jason "Robin" Todd's missing mommy, lost for a decade down a rabbit whole of bad choices, and tricked her into killing her own child.
He's gotta know everything, sometimes, depending on which meds he is on.
Exactly!
If Jim had gone to work in a mask for the last 30 years, then Barbara would have two working legs "today".
How about... When Earth-2 is restored, Harry gets his genius back. None of the other Wellseseseses have worked as well(s) as Harry, so it'd be good to have him return to the fold.
Or how about, on Earth-38, the Leviathan nonsense just goes away and we get a better plotline? Doesn't seem likely, though.
At that point, did Kate even know that? I don't get the sense that Harbinger gave her a detailed briefing before spiriting her away.
Agreed with this. I feel like I'm at odds with most comics/superhero fans on this point, because the general consensus seems to be, "The more costumes, the better."
I'm enjoying crisis, the Brandon/Tyler fight was a bit of a letdown with a tv budget.. But hey.. Do what u can do. ( city and flying were not great effects)
Amen to that. And the pre-Crisis Superman was incredible hypocritical, because he and Lois Lane were effectively a couple, so I don't know how many times the bad guys kidnapped her for their nefarious schemes. Still he didn't reveal his secret identity to her for her own good or whatever.Really, that's another reason I don't like the secret-identity trope. Constantly lying to your best friends, family, romantic partner, etc. is a jerky thing to do. And the excuse for it is lame -- "I hide the truth from you so my enemies won't target you." What difference does that make? Superheroes' best friends constantly get attacked/kidnapped by bad guys anyway. If a bad guy just thought they might know the secret, they'd still get tortured whether they knew or not. Keeping the secret is only about the heroes protecting themselves, not their loved ones. If their loved ones knew they were connected to a superhero, that would make them more aware of potential danger and better able to protect themselves. So it's a hypocritical trope. Keeping your identity secret from the general public is one thing, but the people close to you deserve to know.
Well Lois was always kidnapped etc. For being close to supes anyways..
Well Lois was always kidnapped etc. For being close to supes anyways.. Nothing would have changed in that regard if he told her the truth. Just there personal relationship would change.

What are you going on about now.It happened so long ago, that the word "Cuck" was not at all yet very popular with certain people.
It was only one panel long, but Lex Luthor attempted to give Clark Kent an intervention mid monologue.
"You idiot, she doesn't love you, she loves the alien, they're using you, you should just go."
What are you going on about now.
I have no idea how this relates to anything to what you quoted.
