Creative Writing, Poetry, Arts & Crafts, and Other Creations Thread

Does anyone in here like to write stories, but find that writers' block hits a lot.? I just thought of a strange way to overcome that. It works if you at least are able to start.. maybe write at least a page or two.. however much you can before you find yourself at wits end and have to stop. After doing that, pop on a movie you are familiar with (usually on physical media) and play the director or writers' commentary track if you can. Why would this help? Because the writer or director is reflecting on their approach to the story and why they made certain choices.. and because you have JUST written something.. you can find yourself reflecting on the choices you made.. giving a little commentary track of sorts of the pages you just wrote in your head.

So I'm in the middle of my second Taron & Uénunna story, and I foolishly decided to include a ballad on the titular characters. So now, I not only need to complete writing it, I also know that this will make the translation of this story into English that much more of a pain in the ass.

I write songs, my lyrics are questionable and make no sense to anyone but me really.
Writers block can be difficult, bizarrely I find the having a title to a song first helps me to write a lyric easier
I just come up with nice titles and the rest follows, sometimes

Usually, I watch something that requires you to switch your brain off. Then, I'm able to get back into the zone with my writing and improve parts here and there.

Although, I'll have to try your technique. I'm fleshing out an old Halloween short story and am struggling with why the character does what he does on a deeper level.

I hope it works for you. It might not help everyone but for me it helps, especially in the early stages where I'm trying to find my footing and get the early stuff out of the way. You don't even have to play a whole movie, or one that is similar to what you are writing.. what I've noticed is that, once I finish a writing session, I want to be able to take a break and recharge.. but I'm still thinking "did I take the right approach" or "could have told the story better" and hearing a commentary track, where a director or writer is talking about THEIR approach to storytelling, I find myself thinking about what I did.

wake and paint today did these three watercolors with the tube watercolor paint I got earlier this week maybe saturday got the watercolor paper and paint -- mmmm waiting for the new oil paints to come to add to my oil paint tube collection also getting canvas like 8 foot by foot canvases and thinner I got the goggles to keep me from tounching my eyes or rubbing the eyes with thinner again.. on my fingers that was not fun and the last time I oil painted like 5 years ago.. :( //

I'm not sure if this belongs in this thread, but as of the 14th of August, I'll become a published author! It will initially be available via Kindle and shortly after as a paperback, and after a few months it can move to other ebook retailers. It's called The Awakening, and it's sci-fi. First of all, congratulations!! :D

Second, just to let you know, I had to remove the link, because posting a purchase link for your own book is a violation of the No Sales rule. However, an unobtrusive link in your signature is usually permitted, so I would suggest that's probably your best option.

Good luck with your book!

Thank you! What would be an appropriate link in a sig? I don't want to get this wrong!
