To be truthful the guy was never convicted of murder, he was found not guilty on the grounds of insanity.

So he an schizophrenic killer, not an convicted murderer. I see no reason why we shouldn't treat schizophrenics humanely but that doesn't mean letting them out on field trips if they are still dangerous or potentially dangerous and I think this man will be dangerous as he will no longer be getting his medication.
