CPT APRIL anyone?

unknown

Ensign
Newbie
whats the new back story on this CPT of the Enterprise? or is it just one more thing swept under the rug with this new trex oops i mean star trek?

Oh a new Star Trek joke....:lol::rolleyes:.

I suspect Capt April will continue to be part of fanon, rather then canon.

April's never been mentioned or shown in an onscreen FILMED Star Trek scene. His being in TAS is sort of "cute" but Gene said TAS wasn't canon.

To a great extent they've held to that, tho' occasionally bits and pieces originating in TAS have been used in later filmed scenes.

April could be made legit by a simple mention, but that hasn't happened.

Yet.

i was just curious since this is a pre? cpt kirk enterprise. april is mentioned in a book as well as kirks father but as we know books are books movies movies and series as series. as to seeing the film......... i had made extensive plans for the 25th release date, and now am waiting for the new date. i do want to see all the new/old trek. i hope it does well, if not give James Cawley and his crew a few mill and set back and enjoy some great oldschool trek.

He's not going to see the movie because he doesn't like the new bridge.

I'm not all that happy about the uniforms, either.

Of course you aren't. They are, after all, of what we have seen so far, the one thing that stayed closest to the originals.

Please, until they clone thirty something versions of the original cast, and stick them into the exact uniforms and sets as TOS, he won't be happy. And even then he will find something wrong.

You know, I've never expressed this view on this BBS, but I just have to now. I was never happy with the idea of yet another captain before Pike on Enterprise, even though I liked the novels I've read with April in them. So keeping him out of the new film -- or successive films -- wouldn't bug me in the slightest. The fact that they even have Captain Pike in this new flick should be a considered a nice bone to the old fans, and that's that. We should also be thankful JJ Abrams is probably a bit of a fan, so they've made some nice homages to TOS. I like the new/old uniforms, too. -- RR

Canon

Admiral Morrow: "Jim, the Enterprise is 20 years old."

Not Canon

Novels, the Star Trek Chronology, etc.

SonicRanger: True that. The 20-years-old line kind of allows for both Pike and Kirk to have commanded the Enterprise, but in my view, not a predecessor to Pike. -- RR

To me thats what I thought he was trying to say, that would allow both Kirk and Pike to have a 5 year mission each, then the refit followed by another Kirk mission (although this was never canon) with finally Spock taking over and the ship doing whatever it did before it became an academy training ship.

Someone here is not putting all the numbers together again...

The cries of heresy are beginning to resound in the wood outside the TrekBBS. I can hear them!

Ive just done the sums by looking it up on Memory Alpha, Kirk took command of the Enterprise in 2265 and it was 2284/85 when she was destroyed.

So depending on which year to be more accurate it had been 19/20 years since Kirk first took command, meaning the ship was at least 25 if Pike had her for 5 years, but the Cage was supposed to happen in 2254 meaning she was at least 30.

Obviously this all depends on how canonical you class the first pilot in your own mind...just another time where official 'canon' is wrong and why I think it can be bent and in some cases broken.

If Aprils in hes in, otherwise he isnt...let them tell the story they want to tell we can talk about it after seeing it which obviously the ones who are saying 'I wont see this film' will, they will just do it one of the naughty ways to prove a point.

As much as i would love to see him incorporated into Trek lore, played by Sam Neill, i doubt it will happen to be honest.

But, this is a big secret production, it'd be easier to guess if Spocks forked penis will be shown than worrying about that. So you never know what might pop up throughout the movie.

Keep an open mind and be prepared for the best/worst/spectacular/any thing else you can think of moment.
