Could you kind folks recommend some TAS episodes?

I am going to throw my love and support behind:

The Magicks of Megus Tu
The Practical Joker
More Tribbles, More Troubles
Mudd's Passion

These may be some "sillier" episodes, but the original series was pretty damn silly anyway. Think these fit in PERFECTLY.

Wow, I had never heard that before. Is that in a book somewhere?

"More Tribbles, More Troubles" and "Bem" were definitely both pitched by David Gerrold as possible live-action TOS episodes. Fred Frieberger was unimpressed by the humour of "The Trouble With Tribbles", so the sequel went nowhere after GR left TOS. "Bem" was decreed too expensive t do in live-action.

The Marc Daniels episode seems to be based on a live-action, unfilmed script called, IIRC, "The Beast".

The original story fleshing out "The Counter-clock Incident" in the rest of "Star Trek Log Seven", featuring Kumara the Klingon (whom Kirk once met on an officer exchange program), is based on a two-part episode Alan Dean Foster was asked to submit for a fourth season.

Thanks Therin, I was actually querying Captain Robert April's statement about TOS being almost picked up by CBS for a fourth season, only to walk away when Nimoy signed with Mission : Impossible - never heard that before, had you?

Well, sure, but that was just one aspect. The show was still rating badly, and the production costs continued to bloom, and chances of being picked up were extremely slim. Nimoy threatened to walk after Season Two, IIRC, and there were tentative plans to replace him with Mark Lenard.

Has anyone here read the animated series log books?

Sure. If you're a TAS fan they're well worth reading. They are aimed a bit younger than the Blish adaptations, perhaps, but there are plenty SF concepts in them, and lots of new sidebar stories on previous Starfleet careers of Arex, M'Ress, Uhura, April, etc.

Sorry but I don't think TOS is "silly"...you must be using the wrong word there. Now land of the lost...that was silly.

Hey brother! Do you realise that Thelin lives? In "The Chimes at Midnight", one of the Pocket Books "Myriad Universes" stories.

Yeah, I had read about it on Memory Alpha and it sounded really interesting. Is it worth the read? Even if it's not, I think I may check it out.
Definitely worth a read, though I should warn you that the author is certifiably insane.

With a recommendation like that, there's no way I could pass it up!

WTF? So Sarek was so pissed off about Spock deciding to join Starfleet that father and son didn’t speak for decades... and then Sarek himself ends up serving as an officer aboard the Enterprise? How the heck were they planning to explain that? Or was this to be yet another new role for Lenard?
