At the time, I think the line was supposed to convey to the audience that this wasn't standard TV fare of the time (unfortunately it devolved into it once the show was greenlit), but now seems misogynistic and anachronistic. Like quite a bit of TOS.

Or, you can say it is a different universe, a reboot if you will. Taking the broad strokes and applying them to a 2017 revamping of the universe. I believe it is a reboot. Since we are a much different society and world in 2017 versus 1964. Since the experiences of the writers now are completely different than the experiences of the writers in 1964.
