Could they have gotten rid of Tasha Yar without killing her off?

That's an eloquently put argument that I could at least get behind.

What I take umbrage with is the oft-repeated canard: 'I didn't like it, therefore bad writing', which is repeated ad infinitum around this board.
That's fair. I might even be guilty of it myself, now & then, but I'm always earger to elaborate :guffaw:

Or Pulaski, who falls down a turbolift shaft between S2 and S3 and is never even mentioned again.

I thought she fell into one of Wesley's static warp bubble experiments, and ended up creating a mental world where everyone slowly turned into Data clones, before the bubble collapsed and she ceased to exist.

That's fair. I might even be guilty of it myself, now & then, but I'm always earger to elaborate :guffaw:

Some people are affected differently by different episodes. Lots of people don't like "The Child", because they see what happened as Troi being violated... it doesn't bother me, because I see it as just one of those misunderstandings when beings of two very different types meet. How could a creature that is non-corporeal understand bodily autonomy?

On the other hand, "Half a Life" bothers the hell out of me, while most people seem perfectly fine with it.

^Maybe Pulaski fell down the turbolift shaft and into Wesley's static warp bubble experiment? Or fell into a static warp bubble experiment in which she fell down a turbolift shaft?
