Could the sphere have been a living machine?

I'm wondering if the Sphere could in fact have been a living machine, maybe one of the people that built V'Ger..

I assumed that is was a living machine. Possibly even partly organic.

Kinda would have liked to meet Vger's...designers? Helpers...?

I am assuming they are something like a Type-2 civilization on the Kardashev scale.

Perhaps it was just The Sphere that found Voyager-VI and the probe just mistook it for a planet when first coming in contact with it.

Spock could have misinterpreted the image that he saw in V'GER and it was really The Sphere.
(which would also explain why he didn't put the two together)

The Sphere may have even intentionally placed that image in V'GER so that the probe would not come back looking for it or give away Its own existence.

I like this theory better than the BORG one.
