The Akira class is supposed to be an aircraft carrier type vessel. I don't know the scale of it to the Defiant though

The Akira class is smaller than the Galaxy class ... both in size and internal space.
The 'carrier' designation is not canon to my knowledge, and I think it was mostly conjured up to point in the direction that it would be able to house plenty of fighter/shuttle sized crafts.

The Defiant would never fit into it.

To make things clearer ... apart from drydocks and starbases, the Defiant class would never be able to fit into any existing SF ship without that same ship undergoing a large external/internal change.
In essence, if you want to fit a Defiant into a Galaxy class ... then you have to carve up it's internal space in the span of at least 6 decks in the saucer section to do it.

It would be more efficient to simply redesign the Galaxy class so it's built from the grounds up to fit a Defiant class ship inside of it.
But as I said earlier ... such a feat is hardly needed or practical as each SF ship was designed to be self-sufficient for the most part.

A true 'aircraft carrier' might keep defiant-type ships stacked on the outside. The ships are very self sufficient (certainly kept outside of DS9). Beam in a crew when needed. SO - imagine a fleet of them stacked under a modified Galaxy hull...

Having the ship sep on the Galaxies seem a little too conjured... I would have enjoyed seeing runabouts on the USS Enterprise, and see more extended away missions from the Flag Ship.

If it could, that would be one hell of a suprise. Separate the saucer and battle bridge sections while launching the Defiant at the same time. Most enemies would turn tail and run.
