Could Interstellar influence Trek 3?

JJTrek is mostly about the characters anyway, at least from what we've seen, the Enterprise and space ships are (no pun intended) vessels to move the plot along.

They owe more to Tim Burton's Batman from 1989 if you ask me... with a mixed-up, darker sequel and well, Joel Schumacher coming next. :p

I hope Interstellar does influence the next Trek in some way, but I think it's too late for that now...unless they do another rewrite.

Bob Orci has said several times that he wanted to do something more akin to TMP, in terms of being more grounded in reality, and I would really love to see that. Even though Interstellar had to fudge some of the science, I felt it was a movie that showed Science Fact can be just as awe inspiring as Science Fiction.

I saw Interstellar last night. Although I enjoyed it very much, it's about as far in tone from Trek as you can get while still being set in space. Relativity would define real-life space travel, but Trek's spent the last 50 years (minus Voyager's "Blink of an Eye") pretending that time is constant throughout the universe. Suddenly switching to alien worlds where hours equal weeks, months or years would be like... umm... something or other...

I doubt it Star Trek Into Darkness had better critical acclaim and made slightly more money after the first two weeks. No need to copy something Interstellar.

The exploration of space and the pioneering spirit of humanity are major themes of Interstellar, not that far removed from Star Trek.

What? The OP says Batman influeced the JJ Trek. How?

Orci has multiple times stated how much he loved The Dark Knight and that he tried to make STID a "sequel of that calibre."

He looked at something that looked good and did well. He wanted similar success and quality, it does not mean he was inspired by it.

There's also this article from 2010 in which Lindelof states STID is inspired by The Dark Knight. In fact, that's the title of the article.

I find the dark knight to be very overrated and it is laughable a bit to see other professionals all say they are inspired by the film. the success and overpraised of the dark knight came form the sympathy votes and hype due toheath ledger's death. once you remove the ledger factor from the film. the film is average at best with forgettable and annoying characters like Rachel and twoface.

comic films like days of future past and Spiderman 2 are much better than the dark knight.

however if the writers of stid said they were inspired by the dark knight the result only appear negative. dark night was very focused, serious and original. STID had a lot of unoriginality and shallowness to it. it is absolutely nothing like the dark knight despite how overrated I personally think the dark knight is.

The Dark Knight was suspenseful and good drama. I do think it is overrated, however, because it rode on the coat-tails of Heath Ledger's suicide. The media ran with that, and sold it as the "real human" edge that defined the film.

Stylistically, I'd love it for a Trek movie to take in some inspiration from Interstellar. But the latter uses science as very significant plot points, whereas Trek uses science merely as a means to an end. The effects of time dilation and the drama that comes with it is a very real consequence in Interstellar, whereas Trek treats technobabble as a problem and solution that can be solved the next day.

With that said, I think being inspired by others while retaining its identity has been crucial to Trek's longevity (the Enterprise, after all, is still a 60s-era flying saucer, only latched onto a fuselage).

However, there is one convention that sorely disappointed me in Interstellar, which has been seen plenty in Trek:

...the space-mad former ally who tries to sabotage the mission. Nolan even put in a silly, extremely unnecessary fist fight. There were definitely other ways to facilitate Cooper's flight into the black hole, but a fist fight causing it is so blah in a movie with this much patience.
