Could gangsta rap survive in the Federation?

In the future, only classical, license free music is listened too.

You didn't know Data was big on rap?

Almost none of the social issues, problems, attitudes adressesd/gloryfied by gangsta rap seem to exist in the 24. century. Would most people in the englightened federation know what i am talking about when talking abou rap or hip hop?

People are still into hard-boiled detective stories (Dixon Hill), spy adventures ("Our Man Bashir"), and even westerns ("A Fistful of Datas"), so why wouldn't rap survive? For all we know, there are some very popular hip hop holodeck programs.

Sure it could. Rich white critics think Public Enemy is like the greatest band of all time because they are personally distanced from the political issues they rapped about and it makes them feel good about themselves. In the Federation, rich critics are even *more* distanced from the impact of class issues, they'd lap up the gangsta rap that comes from the outer colonies. The most critically praised album of the 24th century is "Cap Them Spoonhead Bitches" by Bajoran rapper Y'Rophet.

I think the sentiment of your post is mostly true, but feel that a lot of people like PE, because they are perceived as speaking from the heart, rather than being about The Benjamins, and getting crunked up.

Why not? hey probably have a planet full of it. They have the hippie planet, the native american planet, the nazi planet....
