Could DS9 fight a Borg Cube?

They didn't actually fight off a Klingon fleet. They held their own against it long enough for the Klingons to consider it cost prohibitive to stay there until the Starfleet reinforcements arrived, especially as they already had a war with the Cardassians.

Likewise, I'm sure DS9 would have given the Borg one heck of a fight, and even held out long enough for a fleet to arrive. But if that fleet isn't coming? Well, they'd lose.

Serouisly, I agree. A Cube WOULD eventually defeat DS9. But, the Borg Cube would take a beating. The upgrades on the station would certainly temporarily cripple a Cube. The Borg could easily adapt to photons, but 500 could do significant damage.

The ace up the sleeve is Odo. He keep beam over to the Cube disguised as a bulkhead and take the weapons and shielding off line for 10 min. The DS9 and the Defiant could have target practice.

^^ Again though, I don't see the upgrades helping much. In First Contact Starfleet had a whole fleet defending sector 001. Presumably all those ships had multiple photon torpedo tubes, not to mention countless phaser banks. By the time that the Enterprise got there, the fleet had been decimated and the Borg cube was barely scratched. Victory was only secured through Picard's intimate knowledge of the Borg ship-design, not primarily through force of arms.

The point re Odo is an interesting one, but in truth, would probably prove equally as ineffective. Aren't Borg systems routed throughout the ship? Odo could undoubtedly do damage, but probably not enough to stop them destroying the station in the meantime.

It's probably one of the primary reasons why the Borg never featured. Logically, any victory against the Borg by a stationary target would be stretching credibility to breaking point. IMO :)

Yeah, in Best of Both Worlds, IIRC, they established that the power and systems are routed such that the vessel could be something like 78% decimated and still be functional
