Coridan Solar Sailer yacht

Clawhammer

Commander
Red Shirt
This ship was more or less an experiment for alien design combined with established federation technology. I did not really went far into the technical stuff, it's more like a concept car.

Name: "Venetia Starlight"

Dimensions:
Max. Length: 97 Meters
Max. Height: 63 Meters
Max. Width: 50 Meters

Engines:
Multipoint Thrusters
Dual Impulse system
Nearlight Sail system
Warp drive (warp 8.59)

Defensive systems:
Deflector shield (Type V)
Mounting points installed but not equipped.

Brief Description:
Small agile sailing yacht for private use. Can carry 2 crewmembers and 6 guests.
Sail systems works by refracting photons to the Z axis where they are collected, resequenced and then emitted again on the X axis creating a precise 99% effective forward motion.

Warpspeed can be achieved by rotating the wings 180 degrees and tilt the pylons 70 degrees down. The 1mm thin sails will automaticly be fold inside the nacelles when a tilt of over 10 degrees is detected.

This yacht is designed and buildt by a Coridan shipyard under the supervision of "Northstar Classics". Starfleet is going to refit 1 of these yachts to do research missions in subspace damaged regions of space.

If I ever have the time I might do that Starfleet refit, and remove all the moving parts and use short hardpointed pylons instead. :)

Anyway here are the pictures:

I made it earlier this year for a small contest over at SCN. Then it got in a dusty corner of my harddrive. I think my future "experiments" could benefit from opinions given on Venetia Starlight, so that's why I'm posting it here. :)

Fantastic design! Has all the grace of a sailing ship of old with the sails out, and plenty of futuristic hotrod without em. Not to mention the render quality is superb.

Good Lord that's beautiful. I love the color and texture...like a private citizen-owned shiny cared-for vehicle, intstead of a military/govt. "Starfleet" thing.
I like the window detail, and the nacelle pods.
The 4-view is very insectoid, almost, very Ryan Church looking.

Very cool.

Thanks guys, it's a deprature from normal Trek ships, and I'm not sure if this would be a good direction, but I guess that a lot of different cultures would create a lot of different designs. And over time some of these could blend.

While I'm at it, and this is not entirely Trek, more of an original universe I have been thinking about: the ship below is very much the same style, but coming closer to a classic yacht with space flight capability:

Orbital Blue < water (floating) mode

Orbital Blue < departing to uhm well, orbit! :) Perhaps to it's mothership

I'm still wondering if I should expand or try to write something about this universe where the main planet is a watery giant, and ships like the ones above are quite common, probably because of their high technology level.

Atm I just dont have the time, the designs do have another purpose, they are studies for a "normal" sea yacht that I'm planning on modeling sometime soon.

I finally figured out how to link to a Picasa image. Seems direct hotlinking to only the image isnt working, anyway the links in my previous post have been fixed. :)

I love these yacht-inspired ships of yours. I know the windows aren't that different for a yacht of today, but they really push into untread territory for Trek designs.

Clawhammer - These are awesome pics for the surface ship to space ship concept. Very cool. Any more pics and what about this "mothership?" What is the backstory (if any) on these vessels?

Again, fine job.:techman:

Thanks guys :)

Here are some more images of the Lunar Serenity:

These are awesome! Just out of curiosity, you had mentioned mocking up a possible design for the slipstream implemented Aventine as a sort of design evolution of your slipstream prototype ship from Ships of the Line. Did anything ever come of that?

Thanks for posting the renderings of these ships, I love the aesthetic.

Thanks!

Foravalon: Certainly, I'm happy that I got feedback & opinions on the slipstream prototype, if I ever do my version of the Aventine, then it might look slightly similar but I would not dare to put the "hot rod" stuff on a capital ship.:)

Good grief, those are absolutely gorgeous... I made a solar sail ship for a contest here long ago, this makes it look like Play-doh. Awesome!

Looks amazing!

Just to clarify, is it intended to use the sails in the same manner as the Bajoran tachyon-riding ship from DS9, or does it have a miniature warp drive instead?
