Corey Haim found dead.

NY Post article said:
In a 2008 interview with The London Sun, [Victoria] Beckham revealed that the only reason they briefly dated was because she had been a fan.

"We didn't have sex or anything. In actual fact, he didn't seem to want to try. The most we did was kiss," she said. "Looking back it's hard to work out whether I really fancied him or if I was just a bit of a sad fan."

Fail.

RIP.

Wouldn't surprise me if the Oscar committee left him out of next year's tribute.

Hell, I'm still trying to figure out what genius left FARRAH out this year.

Not saying it's a good excuse, but their justification is she was a TV Star, like Bea Arthur (also conspicuously absent in the montage), and as such belongs in the Emmy In Memoriam, not the Oscar.

Then WTF was Michael Jackson doing in their montage?

It would have been better if they just admitted it was a terrible mistake on their part rather than trying to excuse the omission. I can't really fault them for doing the latter, though, since American culture has become so rabidly lawsuit happy that admitting any mistake, ever, is a bad idea.

The Academy never admits to mistakes. They always leave people off the "in memoriam" that has others scratching their head and they just lie with the same company line each time. Because after all, if you add another five seconds to it, the show would just be too long.

Farrah wasn't a big time movie star, just a TV star to the Academy members. Same thing with DeForest Kelly; he was not enough of a move star despite having started in movies with Fear In The Night in 1947, and also having acted in a ton of Westerns-to them, he's just Dr. MCCoy on Star Trek.

He stared in The Wiz and Captain Eo, and almost starred with his family in a movie called Isoman Cross & Sons back in the early '70's (it was derailed by Berry Gordy.)
