Cool news on Dune

Don't you guys know? The original books aren't the ultimate authority, anymore. The prequels and interquels are.

Discrepancies to rationalization: The clear implication of these statements and rationalisations made in Paul of Dune and by Kevin J. Anderson, is that Dune is the aforementioned Life of Muad'Dib.
Fine. But they're adapting the book Anderson calls Life of Muad'Dib, so that's irrelevant. :p

But yeah, that does take some chutzpah.

That any inaccuracies are made within an in-universe document by a narrator who did not have full information. That the sources for discrepancies found in the main text suggests that Frank Herbert's original Dune should, or could, be read as propaganda.
This reduces Dune itself to an document in a fictional universe, which is not created by Frank Herbert, but has as its highest authority Keven J. Anderson and Brian Herbert.

Well screw them and screw the horse they rode in on -- I have expunged the trashy prequels that I have read from my memory. Way to destroy your father's legacy.

Given that we're talking about Dune, shouldn't that be screw them and the sandworms they rode in on?

No no, future Dune where rain and water have created a swamp filled with insect life:

Dune Buggy

Funny though the 84 film had problems the look of the costumes was not one of them. I loved the Atreides uniforms and the rest of them. The only thing the stiltsuits needed were the desert robes and head coverings (I understood the faces in the movie needed to be seen for artistic purposes.)

Still it left such an impression on me that the mini series suffered in my opinion for not matching the style.

That and I loved Stewarts Gurney so much and Jurgen's Duke Leto that the mini couldnt compare.

I think it just might be a mistake not to go with a similar style that Lynch did when it came to the look of the costumes and the sets. For their time they did a wonderful job, especially with the worms!

I think you have just stated the elements of Lynch's Dune that I liked...but I far prefer the mini-series compared to the film. I agree though that they should try and capture the look and style that the 84 film attempted to decipt which I always thought pretty accurate to the books.
