COOL COMPONENT OF UHURA'S QUARTERS...

Maybe Uhura's quarters had that nifty third room that MU Kirk's did. Where Marlena disappeared into to change. It was way too big to be a closet. Even though they used the closet door.

The trouble is, we saw outside Kirk's cabin a few moments earlier (before he enters) and there is very clearly a side corridor there, with no space for a third room. I don't know who decided to put a small table & chair there (for a guard maybe?) but it very definitely can only be a corridor, albeit one which probably leads directly to Marlena's quarters.

That "room" where Marlene comes out of is the captain's wardrobe/closet. It was originally going to be seen in "The Corbomite Maneuver," where Janice would've pulled a fresh tunic for Kirk. But that moment was cut from the broadcast version, although it was filmed. See:

Actually, it was when I first came across those images that I began to realise that a bathroom had never even been intended to be part of the cabin set. It's a great piece of research and clearly shows the size difference between the closet setup (TCM) and the restroom setup (MM). There's just no way those two areas are the same (not to mention that a corridor ploughs straight through the one shown in MM)

On the right is the room I'm talking about. I firmly believe that it's the location of the elusive Captain's Jacuzzi.

For Mirror Kirk maybe. Regular Kirk's sideroom was structured differently, as we saw in Elaan Of Troyius. Notice how the inside wall runs up very close to the door jam, leaving barely any room for the closure switch!

That wall would slice straight through the chair we saw in MM.

I really wish we had seen more of this area in its final appearance here, but Season 3 budgets and all....

Only one small door. And movable walls. It sounds like they have a Deathstar trash compactor.
That's the best lit closet I've ever seen. And it's purple too.

It looks like that wall in the extra room in "Mirror Mirror" is the same wall that was in Pike's quarters.

Though, it looks a bit taller in "Mirror Mirror".

EDIT: Just looked at the "The Corbomite Maneuver" deleted scenes page. That's totally the same wall from "The Cage." It even has the same coat hanger decoration. Though it looks a bit shorter in "The Corbomite Maneuver" than it does in "Mirror Mirror".

And in "The Conscience of the King:"

On set IRL it's the space between the Captain's quarters and the back wall on the Briefing/rec room. There's no corridor going through there.
While I like that Pike had real books. I better like that MUKirk had Marlena in there. She apparently likes the green mood lighting.

Although it never appeared on the plans, the set dressers created a third radial corridor in Season 2 by removing one of the wall flats adjacent to the cabin setup.

This 3rd corridor appears in numerous episodes, but is quite prominent in the beginning of JTB as well (Spock walks out of it to join his friends on their way to the Flight Deck)

Wow. I never realized it. And it's interesting that that corner of the new corridor wall is not straight.

I think they did that to make space for the agony booth, which was in that location on set earlier
