Cool CGI visuals from Axanar

Of course, if anyone ever makes a fanfilm that actually aligns with Gene's vision they couldn't put on YouTube because it would consist of the Captain character speechifying directly into camera about Gene Roddenberry's philosophy of life while a full-on porno happens in the background.

Yeah, if you like something that looks like a cutscene from a Star Trek video game.

Compared to the battle effects shots from any other Star Trek television show or movie, Axanar's are up there with many of the best. Star Trek space battles across the board have been more about entertainment than realism, so I don't understand why Axanar get's singled out in this regard.

While Tobias Richter does good work, it's low budget TV CGI quality, and a long way below the work of ILM or Pixmondo or whoever. The comparison I posted above showing what scenes he recreated from the Trek movies show all the quality difference.

What comparison?
Oops, I was thinking of another Axanar thread. Here's what I meant:

about the close formation battles, Star Trek gets a pass sometimes, like TWOK as that was a purposeful surprise attack, and then all the sensor issues in the nebula. Likewise TUC due to the nature of the engagement.
While I agree with those assessments (the Mutara battle especially still holds up), TWOK does use a couple of slow torpedo shots, especially the one Reliant fires at Enterprise as they run from Regula towards the nebula.

To use TV Tropes venacular, does that make TWOK the trope codifier for slow torpedoes?;)

I think it finds a very pleasant balance between new and old in terms of design elements, and many of those similarities you show are intentional -- a very conscious effort to connect the modern (at the time) Trek with TOS. That you're at once calling it "low budget TV CGI" and also comparing against ILM seems bizarre -- it's obviously no where near as bad as you're saying nor could it possibly have had anywhere near the budget on the high end.

It's low budget TV CGI attempting to ape an ILM blockbuster. How is that bizarre? It's fantastic for one man (Tobias Richter), but they're not on the same level.

Also, it's funny that the Axanar folks would say "not true Trek" regarding the new movies, then copy a huge number of effects shots from them.

Maybe because it is a meaningless talking point that is used to gain support from fervent hatred of Abrams films.
