Except we now live in an era of binge watching and rewatching. Continuity should mean more than ever, yet the writers act like it's still 1966 and we'll never notice.

Don't act like 'continuity' was some arcane aspect somehow impossible in 1966 - the point is, Star Trek has never let continuity get in the way of a story...EVER...be it 1966, 1973, 1987, 1993, 1995, 2001, or 2017.

Not for Star Trek they haven't as had they to the degree you believe, the show wouldn't be doing well enough to be renewed so far every season.
