Constellation class technical manual

Re: Update time

This continues to be some excellent work, and I applaud everything you've been doing for it.

The most interesting thing to me that becomes apparent from the exterior views is just how much of a kitbash this ship was. I mean, I knew that from the first moment I saw it, way back when the episode aired, but when you get a chance to look at a detailed view, it becomes strikingly apparent.

The thing that really struck me this time around is the fact that the inside edge of the E-A's nacelle pylons appear at topside aft of the Constellation's saucer section. That's really amazing, but I'm sure you've studied stills and screencaps long enough to have gotten that detail correct.

Do we know who did the original physical model of the ship?

Oh yes. :D It does loook a bit strange, I admit, but there might be an in-the-box reason for this, even if it just comes down to, say, similar shapes. I haven't yet reached that point, though. Once I've finished the ventral view, maybe.

Greg Jein, I believe.

BTW, Alex and Bernard, thank you very much!

Re: Update time

It just struck me as something I'd never noticed before, but this ship has a CRAPLOAD of photon torpedo tubes. More than even Excelsior unless I'm mistaken.

Re: Update time

I'm sure this has been covered before but Search is still dead, so I'll stick my head above the parapet -

assuming nacelles need to be paired ( and I always have ) do the Constellation's nacelles pair with the port/starboard equivalent or the ventral/dorsal equivalent ?

Re: Update time

I would think ventral-dorsal since the engines are turned on their sides and the impulse unit is also on it's side between them. Most the fan-tech I've seen says these are all connected systems and I think it makes enough sense.

Well, four visible tubes pointing forward (although without the telltale VFX glow), an unknown number of invisible ones only postulated by fan works and never implied to exist on screen.

This wins the silver medal: the standard Excelsior model has just two visible tubes pointing forward and an unknown number of postulated invisible ones, while the standard Akira CGI has 15-17 (!) visible tubes.

Re: Update time

I was thinking of adding another single tube at the back, but this has since become a docking port. ATM there are no planned addtional torp tubes.

Warped9, glad you're enjoying this thread!

I need some time to prepare further updates because I recently found out that I needed to increase the size of both the bridge module and the B/C-deck structure when I compared my views with the TMP Enterprise blueprints. More on that later.

Re: Update time

Here is a slightly updated escape pod. Further work will commence as soon as I get my hands on a DVD that contains "Emissary", because I'm lacking decent screenshots.

I don't except one of you guys to have come across design drawings of the Saratoga escape pod, but it never hurts to ask, so: do such drawings/sketches exist, and if so, who can provide me with them?

Re: Update time

No, because I have those already. And those Fact Files schematics aren't accurate - simply compare them to the photos of the model and you'll see the difference.

Re: Update time

You might try asking Rick Sternbach or Mike Okuda in the Trek Tech forum if they happen to have any lying around. *shrugs* you never know, the other day Rick Sternbach posted up a side view of the Baton Rouge form his old Space Flight Chonology concept book. Whoever you ask, just put their name in the thread title so they see it, so when they get time and look through they can see it and get back to you. ;)

Re: Update time

Oh, I don't think I need to. Now that you've invoked His name, He'll probably show up sooner or later ... :D

Seriously, though, if Rick Sternbach happens to rediscover this thread, I hope he can shed some light on that lifepod issue - although I suspect it was designed by Jim Martin.

That doesn't quite work anymore now that the search function has been disabled.

Anyone know WHY the search function was disabled ? It's a pain in the butt.

Re: Update time

While we wait for RS to miraculously appear :D, here's a teaser, showing you what I'm currently working on.
