Constellation Class Starship

biotech

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Perhaps most familiar from the Stargazer, this ship has cropped up a few times over the years, and its unusual enough , and not modelled by other people enough to make me want to have a go.

No I haven't abandoned the runabout!

At this stage there is virtually no difference between this and a constitution class saucer.

Wow Biotech. We're going to have to send you all of our references on the Refit and have you work one of those up. WHOOT! Superb work!

Thanks, are we talking a commissioned job here?

Nacelle is coming together, after a few false starts.

Naw, we were'nt going to charge you a thing. I just thought we'd send you what we have and you can do it if and only if you want, no worries.

Maybe in the future, right now I like to concentrate on models that havent been made by hundreds of other people.

But thanks for the offer, good references are always hard to come by.

Has it struck anyone else that this would be a cool electric toothbrush? :D

As always, great work, biotech! Keep making a mesh, and we'll keep drooling in your wake ...

biotech, did you box model that nacelle or use splines (or some other technique)? ST:TMP-era warp nacelles have confounded my earlier attempts to model the refit Enterprise, but I might be fixin' to give her another try.

(yours looks great, btw...)

I made a cylinder, I kept one side round, and the other side I played with the verts till it matched the profile of the end of the nacelle.

I then used subdivision to make the shape change smoother, then just extended the round end thurther along until it was the right size.

Then it was just a case of booleaning the cut out in the side, and using symetry to have it on both sides.

Just avoid the thinking that everything has to be done in one peice, you'll find it a lot easier having a back/central peice and a front/top and bottom peice.

Bear in mind the back end of a constellation's nacelle is less gracefull (ie chopped off) than a constitutions.

Started the front end over again, a few times!

The cut out could be smoother, but its getting there.

Mostly from photos of the original models from various exhibitions and the christies auction.
