Constantine - Season 1

The sheer conflict of writing styles, tones, and themes would be jarring beyond belief.
But think about the DC TV verse going forward. There is a whole universe of untapped potential if DC further introduces magic and the occult.

You can have your:
Dr Fate
Zatanna
Raven
Madame Xandu
iVampire
Hawk and Dove
Morgan Le Fey
Etrigan
Shining Knight
Jinx
Spectre
Phantom Stranger
etc

There is tons you could do!

Oh, you'll get no argument from me there.

I'm just saying that the general light-heartened and carefree tone (despite some dark elements at the core, like babysnatching) they have going in Legends of Tomorrow doesn't really mesh well with the dark, somber, and black comedic tones that Constantine has going for it. They clash. Pretty harshly, too. I mean, someone like Zatanna or Dr. Fate, as you mentioned, would be a better fit if you really wanted to introduce magic into the mix.

But hey, as someone else suggested, if they changed the show around pretty much every season in some sort of anthology, I guess it could work.

But they already incorporated him into Arrow, and they managed to bring Sarah, who was probably one of Arrow's darker characters over to LoT with not problem, so I don't see why the same wouldn't be true of Constantine.
The series was supposed to be an anthology. So, next season could very well be a version of Shadowpact or Justice League Dark.
I would love to see them do a season focused on the magic characters new season. Maybe that is the plan and that is why they brought it into Arrow, as a small introduction before it becomes the main focus of LoT.

They have already cast the new addition to Legends of Tomorrow for next season. Patrick J Adams of "Suits" is playing a character that will be revealed when he first appears at the end of the current season. John Constantine certainly could appear as guest star. But he is not going to be joining the main cast anytime soon.

So this means that the originally planned anthology approach has been abandoned then?

^ Where did you get the idea that Legends of Tomorrow was going to be an "anthology" show? I've been following news of the show since it was first announced, and do not recall ever having heard about it being an anthology show.

I had the same question. I waited to answer because I was baffled where you got the idea this was ever going to be an anthology? At most they said early the Vandal Savage storyline would be resolved this year. Maybe some cast members could leave and new ones added. But that is hardly an anthology show!

Quote from showrunner Phil Klemmer:
It’s an anthology show. This is not designed to go forever. This season is meant to be standalone… I mean not as anthological as True Detective. But not everybody will be continuing on this journey… It’s not going to begin Season 2 with us all hopping back on the same ship and like ‘Let’s get Vandal! Let’s get him for real this time!’ This is not traditional episodic television.

That quote directly fits my description above. I remember that. Klemmer admits its not a traditional anthology at all. Quantum Leap was called an anthology by creator Don Bellirario. Which is probably much closer to the traditional definition than Legends. Only 2 regular cast members. Otherwise the rest of the cast/characters and location and time period changed every week. One of the reasons he created Quantum Leap was networks were against anthologies. But the premise allowed him to have the same lead character every episode.

I think Heatwave and Captain Cold are likely to be written out of the show. Or appearances limited. They are both filming new episodes of Prison Break right now. Which they did together before ever appearing on The Flash. Depends on the shooting schedule of both series.

Here is the link to an article I just Googled: http://screencrush.com/legends-of-tomorrow-season-2-anthology-cast/

We discussed this back in the series build up thread several months back IIRC.

After reading this article though, it looks like I am remembering incorrectly--although it does suggest that different seasons could have different takes. So looking at the "magic" angle, Hawkwoman and White Canary could certainly fit in well with Constantine, Zatanna, Dr. Fate, etc.

Well Crow you talk about a "sheer conflict of writing styles....being jarring" just by adding Constantine.

I'm asking why you think the show with it's current cast and characters don't feel jarring as it currently exists.
The show is pretty poorly written, but it's guilty fun.

Those are the dots.

Sounds to me like they might have left the last couple from when it first aired, and now they're adding the earlier ones, starting with the first five.
